Mike Torrance Takes Aim at Jack Carter

Mike Torrance aka The Krayola Kidd may have done more Jack Carter drawings than anyone else in my collection.  Perhaps he enjoys drawing the character as much as I do getting the pieces.

You can see more of Mike’s art at The Daily Sketch with The Krayola Kidd (and if you’ve never checked out Mike’s site, you ought to if only to see his Walking Dead cards!) and his Deviant Art site. Mike is available for commissions and his prices are very reasonable.

Sly Stallone is Having a Bang-Up Time

On August 15, 2012, the Boston Herald posted At 66, Expendables Creator Sylvester Stallone is Still Having a Bang-Up Time.  Here are a few quotes from the piece that fans have to love…

  • Retirement doesn’t seem to be in Sylvester Stallone’s vocabulary…
  • Sly: “To do a sequel at this time of my life? Amazing…The beauty in getting this second wind is you can now apply all the knowledge and capitalize on all the mistakes that were learned the hard way and get it done.”

Sly on GMA

On August 14, 2012, TMZ posted a video clip from Good Morning America of Sly speaking about the tough time of dealing with Sage’s passing.

Expendables 2 Reviews

The Expendables 2 has opened and here are some quotes with links to the full review…

  • VeryAwareTHE EXPENDABLES 2 is a ridiculous amount of fun… Quite possibly the best action film of the Summer, THE EXPENDABLES 2 is a rip roaring good time. When you’re ready to get away from the capes, come see the crusaders.
  • Slant MagazineEven more so than its 2010 predecessor, The Expendables 2 feels like a juiced-up wish-fulfillment fantasy… a perfectly menacing Jean-Claude Van Damme … The Expendables 2 plays out like a series of wet-dream scenarios (especially the climactic macho-a-macho showdown between Stallone and Van Damme)…
  • Access Atlanta: “The Expendables 2″ offers the send-off that adrenaline junkies are seeking…
  • CBR.com: The Expendables 2 learns from the mistakes of the past and serves up the movie audiences should have gotten the first time… This is a simple revenge flick with no message other than “Don’t kill a member of Stallone’s team,” and the movie is better for it.
  • Crave Online: Stallone is a genius. He gets this in a way that maybe even his ‘80s action brethren don’t. He creates a world that has fun with excess, but he never winks at it and actually commits to sincerity, even when people are bound to laugh at the clichés.
  • Toronto.com: It’s rare that a sequel trumps the original, but The Expendables 2 manages to do just that…
  • Kansas City Star: “Expendables 2″ has one rule: Go astronomically big or go home… Grade B
  • Film.com: …this ultra-violent follow-up (directed by Simon West of “Con Air” fame) gives the audience what it wants in full force…
  • Hollywood Reporter: Taut, humorous and attractively packaged, the sequel is both fleet footed and engaging enough to captivate audiences with more than just nonstop action.
  • AM New York: The gang is truly all here in “The Expendables 2,” a cinematic old-timers’ day that one-ups its star-studded predecessor… 3 Stars
  • Daily Star: Simply sit back, adjust your bulletproof vest and savour seeing the muscle-bound mob expend more bullets than World War Two (and that’s just the first scene!) in this year’s best action movie.  10/10
  • Los Angeles TimesThe Expendables 2 arrives jam-packed and fully loaded with main man Sly Stallone still leading the charge, followed by that wild bunch of aging brawn… somehow all that testosterone-infused blow-’-em-up craziness turns out to be kind of a kick…

Of course the reviews keep rolling and in.  Be advised your mileage may vary. - Craig
