Sly & SZoner, Peter Hansen

SZoner, Peter Hansen sent in the photo above with the following message:

Hey Craig,

I (Yrock) love your site, keep up the good work.

Here is a picture of Sly and I at Cafe Roma about two years ago.  It made me more than happy, that he took the time for a picture with me.

I actually went back to the cafe a few days later to give him a handwritten letter I had written, which basically explained what a positive impact he had been and still is on me. Being a stutterer I have trouble speaking smoothly and ever since childhood I´ve felt a connection to Mr. Stallone, since he also was born with a speech impediment.

So that´s my little story about a huge inspiration.

Sincerely,

Peter Hansen

P.S. It is absolute amazing that Sly is so open to the fanbase and a “two way communication” exists.

Cool photo and story, Peter.  Thanks for sharing them.

Cobra Month Concludes

Recently I posted that Nick Martinolich and the fine folks over a Media Potluck declared June to be Cobra month! Earlier this week I received the following from Nick…

Nick Martinolich and Media Potluck wrapped up a month’s worth of Cobra celebration with an interview from StalloneZone’s Craig Zablo, guest blogger Chris Michaud
comically reviewing the film inWhat’s So Funny About the Crime Problem,” and a Cobra Resource Guide including links to fan art, alternative DVD commentaries, rip-offs, and more.

Denis Leary Talks Up “The Expendables” & Sly

Denis Leary, star of the FX series Rescue Me recently had some things to tell Entertainment Weekly about The Expendables and Sly:

I’m looking forward to seeing that (The Expendables).

I’m not surprised Sly didn’t ask me to be in it. [Leary appeared with Sylvester Stallone in the 1993 actioner Demolition Man.] I don’t think Sly would call me for something like that. I’m too skinny. You’ve got to have big muscled guys in those movies.

I give Stallone credit, man. That movie Copland — I know he decided to go back into the action franchises, but that guy’s got some good acting in him if he wants to do it.”

“The Expendables” Can Save the Summer

On July 1, 2010, The Den of Geek posted a piece titled, “The Five Films that can Save the Summer.” It starts by saying…

It’s been Hollywood’s worst blockbuster season in years. But hope may be around the corner, as the back end of the summer schedule boasts a collection of films that may just save the season…

Of course The Expendables is one of the five films positioned to save the season.  Here’s a taste of why:

There’s nothing at this stage you can tell us now to dissuade us from seeing The Expendables

What we’re looking for from The Expendables, though, is an action picture that’s unashamedly schooled in the 80s.

The Expendables we’re hoping, will be that too, albeit with a fair bit more in its tank. And with Stallone and co eagerly eyeing a potential sequel – and we’re happy to suggest a cast list – the hope is that this is just the start of something that will be in our lives for years to come.

Saving the Rambo Bridge

On June 30, 2010, HopeStandard.com posted a nice article about a group of Rambo fans who are taking steps to save the bridge used in the filming of First Blood.  The efforts to save the bridge aren’t news to those that read the StalloneZone message boards, but the article may be.  Here are some highlights:

Camping on the river’s edge at the bridge, a camping spot soon to be no more after the new bridge is constructed, the young men spent an evening of round table discussion on which of the Rambo movie series was Sylvester Stallone’s best work. But there was also plenty of discussion over what a “waste it is to see a perfectly good bridge,” part of the town’s “heritage” dismantled.

Ideas from draw bridges and refits in order to keep the Rambo bridge as a pedestrian, biking route along the TransCanada Trail filled the Saturday evening conversation in camp.

…there appears to be a resurgence of fans since the new movie releases and the 25th anniversary of the original First Blood. According to Visitor InfoCentre staffer, Kimberly Campbell, “June 2010 has seen a flood of Rambo fans visiting the Hope Museum from all over the world. While it is typical for at least three or four groups to ask about First Blood every day, June has seen a rise in both the numbers and intensity of fans.”

“Recently, the Museum has been graced with the presence of visitors from Vancouver, Portland, Ontario, Germany, and the Netherlands who have come to Hope in large part because the movie was filmed here,” adds Campbell.

At the Hope Museum, visitors are able to re-view the movie First Blood, “or a number of special edition and behind-the-scenes versions of the movie, as well as a special documentary titled On the Set of First Blood,” adds Campbell. (On the Set of First Blood has been covered on the SZ and was created by SZoner, Herve Attia!  It’s excellent and should be in every Stallone fan’s collection. Also a tip of the Rambo bandanna to Regan Greenard! Craig)
