Yo! Stella!

SYLVESTER STALLONE might want to brush up on his “Yo, Juliet!” speech. The buzz is that the under-employed action hero is hot to hit the stage and do some serious theater, particularly in England. Theater performances have boosted or revivied the careers of such stars as NICOLE KIDMAN (“The Blue Room”) and KATHLEEN TURNER, who has been getting raves in London for baring it all in “The Graduate.” STALLONE‘s career could certainly use a boost. “I have not made a dime in two years, ” the one-time hot star complained to Stiffed author SUSAN FALUDI last year. “I see everyone else working and I’m not doing (bleep). I’m in total limbo.”

A spokesman for STALLONE denies that he wants to do theater, but London’s Express quoted a “theatrical agent” as saying, “It’s on the QT that we’ve been asked to find out if there are any suitable projects floating around for him.”

While some theater sources scoffed at the idea of the star of “Rambo” and “Rocky” doing theater, others were less skeptical. “He’d make a great Stanley Kowalski,” says a source, refering to the leas in “A Streetcar Made Desire.”

The Rocky Horror Golf Show

The June 2000 issue of Maximum Golf features an interesting article written by RON DEL BARRIO and ANDY MEISLER (which is accompanied by three caricatures of SLY drawn by DREW FRIEDMAN).

Mr. Barrio is a golf pro who describes what it was like to be SLY‘S personal golf instructor when SLY was first learning the game. Not only is the article humorous but also informative in that it gives us a glimpse into Sly‘s off-screen persona!

The article is interesting, informative and easily worth the cost of the magazine.

THREE STALLONE ITEMS

THREE STALLONE ITEMS

On May 28th, JASON93 posted the web address for a reviewer who caught a sneak preview of “Detox” way back in November of last year. The reviewer ultimately rated the film 3 out of ten but did like some aspects of the film. To view the review click |HERE|

On May 30th, COMING ATTRACTIONS ran a follow-up item from MR. ANONYMOUS who has nothing but praise for “Get Carter.” Mr. Anonymous says that he caught an advance screening and “boy, did the movie deliver. It had top notch performances from the entire cast… How was Sly you ask? I have to say that Stallone was EXCELLENT as Jack Carter. “Get Carter” has got to be Stallone’s best movie in years.” MA goes on to praise the director, cinematographer and Stallone some more!

On June 1st, EDWIN5 posted three web addresses which contained pictures of SLY. One of the pictures was a cool close-up shot of SLY getting ready to lower the visor of his helmet. On the same day ANDREW posted on the board that he had forwarded the photo to the DARK HORIZONS and AIN’T IT COOL websites. On June 2nd the photo appeared at DARK HORIZONS giving credit to the STALLONE ZONE. Thanks to both EDWIN5 and ANDREW (as well as GARTH!)

Stallone Home: First Look

The May 22, 2000 issue of People contains the following picture and article. Thanks to ERNEST “Jazzman” RESENDES for the “heads-up.”

On TV: Home Stallone

What does it take to get a celebrity couple to open their house to the public? In the case of SYLVESTER STALLONE and JENNIFER FLAVIN, whose Beverly Hills place was the scene of a guided tour televised for Home Shopping Networks viewers May 6, it was a cause close to home, as FLAVIN sold skin-care products and a percentage of the proceeds went to heart research. Their daughter SOPHIA ROSE, who turns 4 in August, was born with a ventricular septal defect, a congenital heart defect.

She’s fine thanks to surgery when she was 10 weeks old, but the STALLONES think more people, particularly new parents, need to be more aware of the ailment. “At first,” says FLAVIN, 31, “you think your baby’s a little fussy or maybe has colic. SOPHIA wouldn’t lie down; she would vomit constantly. She wasn’t gaining weight. But you never think that your child has a hole in it’s heart.”

After SOPHIA‘s condition was diagnosed, FLAVIN researched the problem and held fundraisers for the Heart of a Child Foundation, which supports heart-defect research.

SOPHIA, fully recovered is “the most energetic child I’ve ever seen, a whirling dervish,” says STALLONE. She is going to be fine, but says SLY, “a lot of people don’t know about congenital heart disease. We have to bang the drum loudly; and hopefully people will rally to the cause. We want to raise awareness.”
