This month’s (issue 91<\/b>) of\u00a0TOTAL FILM<\/b>\u00a0lists\u00a0The 25 Greatest Sports Movies<\/b>\u00a0(voted by filmgoers!) and guess who comes in at\u00a0#1, #2<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0#24<\/b>?<\/p>\n

You guessed it !!!<\/p>\n

Here’s a taste of what they had to say…<\/p>\n

#1 ROCKY (1976)<\/b>\u00a0: A film about a palooka, made by a palooka-but it’s your\u00a0greatest sports movie of all time<\/b>. The palooka being\u00a0Sylvester Stallone<\/b>, a bit-part guy who, like his character, made the most of his one shot.<\/p>\n

“I was as marketable as tear gas, ” recalls\u00a0Stallone<\/b>. “Nobody wanted me, but I wasn’t about to let this thing go.” His tenacity paid off —\u00a0three Oscars<\/b>,\u00a0$220-million worldwide<\/b>\u00a0and a string of sequels that made him one of\u00a0Hollywood<\/b>‘s most bankable stars.<\/p>\n

#2 ESCAPE TO VICTORY (1981)<\/b>\u00a0: It’s a fairytale football for those who want to believe–in jumpers for goalposts, sudden- death penalty saves and\u00a0Caine<\/b>‘s man’s-man persona, epitomized by his advice to the soccer stars nervous about [ “Once I’d said to them:’ Come on, don’t worry about it, just say say the lines!’ ].<\/p>\n

#24 ROCKY IV (1985)<\/b>\u00a0: It’s the only\u00a0Rocky<\/b>\u00a0movie that doesn’t feature\u00a0Bill Conti<\/b>‘s score-it returns in\u00a0Rocky V\u00a0<\/b>-yet, of the four sequels, you voted it the one challenger to the\u00a0John G. Avildsen<\/b>‘s big-hitting original.<\/p>\n
