Schut<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Starring: Sylvester Stallone<strong>, Javon &#8216;Wanna&#8217; Walton, Pilou Asb\u00e6k, Dascha Polanco, Sophia Tatum, Moises Arias,<br \/>\nMartin Starr<\/strong> and <strong>Jared Odrick<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tagline:\u00a0<em> 25 Years Ago the World&#8217;s Greatest Hero Vanished<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Overview:\u00a0 Beware of spoilers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sam (Walton) is a thirteen year old who lives with his single-parent mother (Polanco) in an apartment in a rough part of Granite City.\u00a0 Sam&#8217;s a latchkey kid since his mom has to put in a lot of hours at work.\u00a0 Sam spends a good deal of his time researching Samaritan.\u00a0 Samaritan was a superhero believed to have died twenty-five years ago along with the villainous Nemesis (who happened to be his twin brother!). while they were fighting in a burning building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sam has come to think that Joe (Stallone), a garbage man who lives in an apartment across the street is Samaritan!\u00a0 Despite the mounting evidence, Joe denies he&#8217;s the missing superhero.\u00a0 As Sam comes home one day, some gangbangers jump and begin beating him.\u00a0 Joe rushes to the rescue, displaying super strength as he runs off the thugs.\u00a0 Now Sam and Joe are in the sights of the gang led by Cyrus ( Asb\u00e6k)&#8230; who plan to kill the old man&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sly Stallone is back!\u00a0 He&#8217;s excellent in the role of Joe\/Samaritan and supported by a well-cast group of actors.\u00a0 Javon Walton is extremely likeable in the role of Sam.\u00a0 Often child actors have a hard time finding the balance of cute and instead come off annoying.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not the case with Walton.\u00a0 I expect big things from him in the future.\u00a0 Pilou Asb\u00e6k, Dascha Polanco and Sophia Tatum are also excellent. Asb\u00e6k is a great bad guy.\u00a0 I&#8217;d love to see him play an anti-hero in the future.\u00a0 Polanco and Tatum aren&#8217;t given a lot to do, but when they&#8217;re on screen all eyes are on them.\u00a0 I hope to see more leading parts for them in the future.\u00a0 I enjoyed Julius Avery&#8217;s direction.\u00a0 He&#8217;s not flashy, but puts the camera in the right place to maximize drama and\/or action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you&#8217;ve seen the <em>Samaritan<\/em> trailers, there&#8217;s a dialogue change from the trailer to the film which is great for a surprising laugh.\u00a0 Joe is hit by a car and left mangled in the street, he starts starts to heal and in the trailer Sam asks, &#8220;Are you okay?&#8221; Joe responds (in pain), &#8220;I&#8217;m cool.&#8221;\u00a0 In the film the same set-up but this time Joe&#8217;s response is, &#8220;F*** no.&#8221;\u00a0 I burst out laughing.\u00a0 That was well-played.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There&#8217;s a twist in the film that happens near the end.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t give it away, but will say I absolutely did not see that coming.\u00a0 I loved it.\u00a0 The twist took the story up a notch.\u00a0 As to the <em>Samaritan<\/em> story itself, some folks are complaining it&#8217;s too simple.\u00a0 I agree, it is simple, but let&#8217;s not lose sight that<em> Samaritan<\/em> is modern day mythology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Samaritan<\/em> is a tale of good vs evil.\u00a0 Another theme is that good and evil live can live in each of us and we have to decide which way we will go.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re okay with a story about super-heroes who happen to be twins&#8230; with one being good and the other being evil&#8230; that takes place in a town called Granite City&#8230; and a young boy who is searching for the missing hero and finds him living basically next door&#8230; and the missing super hero now has a job as a garbage man (a person who cleans up the city) but you want a more complex tale, you may be missing the point of the modern mythology that is being created.\u00a0 Or <em>Samaritan<\/em> may not be for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As for me, I loved the ride.\u00a0 At first I thought <em>Samaritan<\/em> would be a movie best loved by younger kids.\u00a0 But later in the film, it gets darker and then there&#8217;s the twist.\u00a0 I still think teenagers and adults open to this newly created mythology will get an enjoy <em>Samaritan<\/em>.\u00a0 If I was going to pick any nits, it would be the fire cgi used in the extended fight scene at the end.\u00a0 But why nitpick when <em>Samaritan<\/em> is such a fun time.\u00a0 I hope to see a sequel &#8212; it certainly opens the door for more movies or a tv series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em style=\"color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font); font-size: inherit;\">Samaritan<\/em><span style=\"color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font); font-size: inherit;\">\u00a0earns 4 of 5 stars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/zview_b.png?resize=500%2C100\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2022\/z082722zview_samaritan2.png?resize=500%2C269\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samaritan (2022) Director:\u00a0 Julius Avery Screenplay by:\u00a0 Bragi F.
