Here’s Andrew Charipar’s<\/strong> take on Stallone <\/strong>as “Cobra”<\/strong> and a humorous story that goes with it.\u00a0 I got this sketch from Andrew <\/strong>at the 2009 FX con<\/strong>.\u00a0 Although I regularly visit Andrew’s blog<\/strong><\/a>, I’d never met him.\u00a0 A few weeks before FX<\/strong>, Andrew <\/strong>posted that he’d take requests for sketches to have ready for anyone attending the show.\u00a0 I put in for the Stallone<\/strong> character of his choice.\u00a0 A few days later, Andrew<\/strong> posted the Stallone<\/strong> piece you see here and said I could pick it up at FX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The weekend of the show arrived and I found Andrew’s table.\u00a0 He had art available for sale, his sketchbook, and comics spread out.\u00a0 A small group of folks were around his table ordering or picking up sketches. \u00a0 I waited my turn, stepped up and said, “Hi.\u00a0 I think you have a Cobra<\/strong> for me.”\u00a0 A puzzled look crossed Andrew’s face and he replied, “I don’t think so.”\u00a0 Now I was the one looking confused.\u00a0 Andrew asked, “Are you sure you requested a Cobra<\/strong> from me?”<\/p>\n Now I know that he’s drawn the piece — I’ve seen it on his website, but I can tell by the look on his face that he has no idea why I would think that he’s drawn me a Cobra <\/strong>sketch.\u00a0 I go on, “My name is Craig Zablo<\/strong>.\u00a0 I requested the sketch through your website and you decided to do Stallone<\/strong> as Cobra<\/strong>.”\u00a0 It’s like a light went on and Andrew<\/strong> replied, “Oh, a Stallone Cobra<\/strong>!\u00a0 My buddy and I were just talking about GI Joe <\/strong>and we thought you were referring to ‘that’ Cobra<\/strong>.”\u00a0 Andrew<\/strong> then proceeded to pull out the piece you see above.<\/p>\n
