R. Kelly May Score New ‘Rocky’ Stage Musical<\/span><\/strong>

Robert Simonson <\/strong>of Playbill On-Line <\/strong>writes that the producers of a stage version of the Sylvester Stallone<\/strong> film “Rocky”<\/strong> are in talks with singer\/songwriter R. Kelly<\/strong> about writing the score for the show. Variety<\/strong> also reported the news about Kelly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thomas Meehan<\/strong>, the three-time Tony-winning<\/strong> for Annie<\/strong>, The Producers<\/strong> and Hairspray<\/strong>, is already on board to write the book. The spokesman added that Kelly<\/strong> was in talks to join the creative team.<\/p>\n

R. Kelly<\/strong> (whose real name is Robert Kelly<\/strong>) has written songs for Whitney Houston<\/strong>, Michael Jackson<\/strong>, Janet Jackson<\/strong>, Luther Vandross<\/strong> and others. His 1996 single “I Believe I Can Fly,”<\/strong> won three Grammy <\/strong>Awards. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rocky<\/strong> spawned four sequels and would probably work well on stage. Two songs<\/strong> from the “Rocky” <\/strong>films-“Gonna Fly Now,”<\/strong> an instumental by Bill Conti<\/strong>, and “Eye of the Tiger” <\/strong>by Survivor<\/strong> – became No. 1 hits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
