On October 26, 2010<\/strong>, Smashing Interviews Magazine<\/strong><\/a> posted an interview with Jim Peterik<\/strong> the founder of Survivor<\/strong> and composer of the classic “Eye of the Tiger.”<\/strong><\/em> Did you know that Jim<\/strong> was also in the band Ides of March<\/strong> famous for the #1<\/strong> hit “Vehicle”<\/strong><\/em> that he wrote?\u00a0 The song also appeared in the Stallone<\/strong> film “Lockup.”<\/strong><\/em> Jim <\/strong>also wrote hit songs for 38 Special<\/strong> and Sammy Hagar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here’s what Jim <\/strong>had to say about Sly<\/strong> and “Eye of the Tiger”<\/em><\/strong>…<\/p>\n

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine<\/em>)<\/strong>: How did you get involved in writing \u201cEye of the Tiger\u201d for Rocky III<\/em>?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jim Peterik<\/strong>: That was just a miracle event as far as I\u2019m concerned. Apparently Stallone had caught wind of Survivor and liked our sound. One day I got a message on my answering machine. This sounds like a story one would make up but I pressed the button and heard, \u201cHey, yo Jim, give me a call. It\u2019s Sylvester Stallone.\u201d I\u2019m thinking, \u201cYeah, whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n

I called the number and sure enough it was Stallone. He tells me about this new movie and that he doesn\u2019t want to use \u201cGonna Fly Now\u201d anymore. He wanted something new, \u201csomething with a pulse and for the kids.\u201d Stallone said, \u201cI\u2019m going to send you the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frankie came over and we watched the film. Frankie said, \u201cThis is going to be enormous.\u201d I had my electric guitar in my hand, the punches were being thrown in the movie, and I was feeling the pulse. I just started doing that bap bap bap bap on the guitar, not knowing that riff would become pretty much etched in American consciousness to this day.<\/p>\n

I sent the demo of the song to Stallone and he goes, \u201cOh yeah, that\u2019s it. You got it. Just write me a third verse. You got a little lazy there.\u201d So we did and the rest is history. It\u2019s an amazing story that really put us on the map. What amazes me is it\u2019s still so popular. We\u2019re still on the Billboard charts under downloads. We\u2019re like #22 or something.<\/p>\n

Jim Peterik<\/strong>: I\u2019ve been asked to do halftime at LSU in November. I\u2019ll be singing that song with the band. That\u2019ll be a real thrill.<\/p>\n
