{"id":3632,"date":"2011-06-12T12:26:14","date_gmt":"2011-06-12T16:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/wordpress\/?p=3632"},"modified":"2011-06-12T13:00:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-12T17:00:49","slug":"rocky-musical-moves-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stallonezone.com\/wordpress\/2011\/06\/12\/rocky-musical-moves-forward\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Rocky&#8221; Musical Moves Forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; display: block; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stallonezone.com\/imgs\/news\/2008\/June\/062208rocky.jpg?w=640\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On <strong>June 1, 2011<\/strong>, <strong>Patrick Healy<\/strong>, in the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, wrote a piece titled, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/06\/01\/gonna-fly-soon-a-rocky-musical-is-moving-ahead\/?scp=1&amp;sq=rocky%20musical&amp;st=cse\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>&#8220;Gonna Fly Soon: A &#8216;Rocky&#8217; Musical is Moving Forward.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\u00a0 Here are a\u00a0few tidbits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0The creators and producers, which include \u201cRocky\u201d star and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone, held a private reading of the work in New York in April, according to Mr. Meehan and a member of the producing team, Barbara Darwall.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8230; they described the reading as creatively successful and said work was continuing toward the goal of mounting the musical in Germany in the fall of 2012 \u2014 and then, they hope, bringing \u201cRocky\u201d to Broadway in the spring of 2013.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project began about eight years ago, Mr. Meehan said, when Mr. Stallone called him about making a musical of \u201cRocky.\u201d Mr. Stallone holds the rights to the story, Mr. Meehan and Ms. Darwall said.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He [Mr. Meehan]\u00a0described the show as a small-orchestra, small-cast production, with about five principal characters and a plot that tracked closely to the first \u201cRocky\u201d movie.
