Jordan, Sylvester Stallone <\/strong>and <strong>Tessa Thompson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The<\/u><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<u>Pitch<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201dHey Sly, my name is Ryan Coogler and I have an idea to continue the Rocky legacy\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The<\/u><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<u>Tagline<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cYour legacy is more than a name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The<\/u><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<u>Overview<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>Beware of Spoilers\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Sylvester Stallone<\/strong> was content that after six feature-length films <strong>Rocky\u2019s<\/strong> story had been told.\u00a0 <strong>Ryan Coogler<\/strong> had a different outlook and movie fans are better for it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Creed<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 isn\u2019t a sequel as much as an expansion of the <strong>Rocky Balboa<\/strong> universe.\u00a0 In the past films, <strong>Rocky<\/strong> was the center of attention and <strong>Rocky\u2019s<\/strong> struggle was the reason for the movie.\u00a0 Now the focus shifts to <strong>Adonis Creed, Apollo\u2019s<\/strong> illegitimate son.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In less adept hands <em><strong>Creed<\/strong><\/em> could have been a straight-to-video attempt to squeeze out the last few dollars from a series that many (including <strong>Stallone<\/strong>) thought was over.\u00a0 Instead we\u2019re treated to one of the most satisfying, emotional and uplifting movies that I can remember ever seeing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Michael B. Jordan<\/strong> is an amazing actor.\u00a0 He is required to go through a gauntlet of emotions throughout the film but they are never overstated or hammy.\u00a0 He and <strong>Stallone<\/strong> share a couple of scenes where the actor talking isn\u2019t the most important part of the scene.\u00a0 The range of emotions that they go through is subtle and all the more powerful because they pull us into the scenes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Sly<\/strong> has never been better.\u00a0 Never.\u00a0 An<strong> Oscar<\/strong> nomination should be in the bag.\u00a0 Don\u2019t believe me? Rewatch the scene with the doctor when she tells <strong>Rocky<\/strong> his diagnosis.\u00a0 Or when <strong>Rocky<\/strong> returns to the gym.\u00a0 Or when <strong>Rocky<\/strong> talks to <strong>Adonis<\/strong> about <strong>Adrian<\/strong>, what she went through and what he would go through for one more day with her.\u00a0 Heck, think about the scene with <strong>Rocky<\/strong> and <strong>Adonis<\/strong> in the holding cell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ryan Coogler<\/strong> deserves special mention for making<em><strong> Creed<\/strong><\/em> happen.\u00a0 Not only can <strong>Coogler<\/strong> write, but his direction is spot-on.\u00a0 <strong>Coogler<\/strong> creates a world where all of the characters are believable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are so many cool touches <strong>Coogler<\/strong> puts in the film \u2013 <strong>Adonis<\/strong> watching the second fight between <strong>Rocky<\/strong> and <strong>Apollo<\/strong> with <strong>Adonis<\/strong> mimicking <strong>Rocky\u2019s<\/strong> punches \u2013 <strong>Rocky<\/strong> talking about how everything he cared for has moved on [<strong>Adrian<\/strong> and <strong>Paulie<\/strong> have died, his son lives in Vancouver, even his turtle tank now only contains one turtle] \u2013 the fact that <strong>Rocky<\/strong> is still recognized as a celebrity \u201cWhen were you going to tell me your uncle was <strong>Rocky Balboa<\/strong>\u201d is just one example] but that time has moved on as well..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Coogler<\/strong> made what could have been a simple boxing movie into a drama about so much more than boxing\u2026 yeah, I guess you could call <em><strong>Creed<\/strong><\/em> a modern day <em><strong>Rocky<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 And you know for me, there is no higher compliment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rating:<br \/>\n<\/strong><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/rating_A%2B.png?resize=375%2C75\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Creed\u00a0 [2015] Director: \u00a0Ryan Coogler Screenplay: Ryan Coogler and Aaron Covington Starring: Michael B.
