Stallone Files Suit Over ‘Rocky’ Projects<\/span>

LOS ANGELES<\/b>\u00a0– Actor\u00a0Sylvester Stallone<\/b>\u00a0has sued\u00a0Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.<\/b>\u00a0and a production company, claiming they stymied his efforts to make a sequel and\u00a0Broadway<\/b>\u00a0musical based on the\u00a0“Rocky”<\/b>\u00a0film franchise.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit filed Thursday in\u00a0Los Angeles County Superior Court<\/b>\u00a0seeks unspecified damages against the studio and the production company. It also seeks an order allowing\u00a0Stallone<\/b>\u00a0to proceed with a\u00a0“Rocky VI”<\/b>\u00a0film.<\/p>\n

“He looks at litigation as the very of very last resorts,” said\u00a0Stallone<\/b>‘s attorney,\u00a0Gerald Margolis<\/b>. “It means he’s extremely sad, disappointed and put out by all of this.”<\/span><\/p>\n

MGM<\/b>\u00a0spokeswoman\u00a0Janet Janjigian<\/b>\u00a0called the lawsuit “sad, desperate, pathetic and without merit.” She declined further comment.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit also names as a defendant the former firm of\u00a0Chartoff-Winkler Productions<\/b>. A call seeking comment from the company’s successor,\u00a0Chartoff Productions<\/b>, was not immediately returned.<\/p>\n

Stallone<\/b>\u00a0alleges the defendants initially wanted to be involved in the development of a\u00a0“Rocky”<\/b>\u00a0musical co-written by the actor. But\u00a0MGM<\/b>\u00a0proposed keeping an unacceptable share of the potential profits. After\u00a0Stallone\u00a0<\/b>balked, the studio allegedly said it would develop musicals based on the\u00a0“Rocky”<\/b>\u00a0movies.<\/p>\n

Stallone<\/b>\u00a0claims that he reached a tentative deal with\u00a0MGM\u00a0<\/b>to make the\u00a0“Rocky VI”<\/b>\u00a0movie, but the project was nixed after a producer allegedly demanded that his son direct the film.<\/p>\n

Stallone<\/b>\u00a0also accused both defendants of pulling out of the musical and movie after learning he intended to co-produce and star in a boxing reality TV show called\u00a0“The Contender.”<\/b><\/p>\n

The series is scheduled to air in\u00a0January<\/b>, featuring amateur boxers as they advance from training camp through challenges in the ring. The winner will receive $1 million and a chance to become a professional prize fighter.<\/p>\n

The suit claimed\u00a0MGM\u00a0<\/b>retaliated by creating its own reality show called\u00a0“The Real Rocky”\u00a0<\/b>with a similar plot.\u00a0MGM<\/b>, however, has said its show had been in the works for about a year.<\/p>\n
