Finally for today’s update we have another question with Sly!
Enjoy!
-Craig Zablo
Craig Zablo: Do you ever consider revisiting “The Bodyguard” or “Maggie’s Eyes” [two unproduced screenplays that Sly wrote]?
SYLVESTER STALLONE: Well, “The Bodyguard” could work. I don’t know if it’s right for me because, you know, you write it in a certain time in your life when you’re thinking like that, so that may be a naiveté. I would revisit them to direct. But I’m spending a lot of time on Rambo right now. That, that’s really an important film because I think that action films have somewhat gone out of favor or just gone out of style. Today it’s more fantasy, more sci-fi, more colorful action characters. It’s not so much flesh and blood. So I, I’d like to explore Rambo in a way that it’s almost an homage to action films because I don’t think they’re gonna stick around the way they were…[with]such a force, such a presence like in the 80’s and 70’s and, you know, up into the 90’s.
So doing Rambo’s going to be a real challenge because it’s kind of like a, you know, what you call a handmade, hands on film. Not a lot of CGI. It’s things that are actually feasible you know. I think it’s great what they do with “Spider-Man” and “X-Men”… it’s very creative. But I think this would also be a challenge too.

Re Newsweek article Rocky’s Final Round – Lately, he’s been trying to cast a young man to star opposite him in “Rambo IV,” which he will begin shooting in January. “I’m looking for the next Robert Mitchum or Steve McQueen, and they don’t exist,” he says.

Whats old is new and I think SLY is attuned to that. When Batman Begins came out it made you think “Yeah if I had enough money I could be batman” it was just an ordinary man with gadgets. With Rambo, I think whats old is new, an ordinary man with an extraordinary heart and passion. If he brings that back to the screen, we havent seen that in a while, it will be a huge hit. I know for myself, I want to remember when I went to the movies when I was 14, this will be a great way to recapture my own fleeting youth. I CANT WAIT FOR ROCKY BALBOA, OPENING NIGHT I AM THERE!!!
yo rock i loved all your movies been waitng for a long time for the new one to come out but i just have to ask you something how you fought and your son didnt start to fight anyway i cant wait till rocky balboa to come out.
Hey SLY, thanks for the memories of all the Rocky movies. I was just a youngin’ when the original came out(1976) but I remember every moment of it. Im sure I aint the only one to admit that I cried when Rocky said, at the end of Rocky II, “yo Adrian, I did it!” This story has touched millions of people across the country, and across generations. I personally cannot imagine life without the Rocky movies. I look forward to seeing Rocky Balboa when it comes out this week. Thanks again, great job, and I wish you well in all your future endevors.
