Sly, Piers Morgan & Simon Cowell

Piers Morgan, in a column for dailymail.co.uk, talks about when he and Simon Cowell were having dinner in LA and bumped in to Sly:

Enjoyed another fun night at Soho House – now officially THE coolest place to be in LA – where I bumped into Sylvester Stallone and Simon Cowell.

The former was wearing very large sunglasses.

‘Sly, great to see you,’ I said. ‘Isn’t it a bit dark for those?’

‘Yes, absolutely, but I’ve got a sty on my eye.’

He slowly pulled down the shades to reveal a whopping great big, inflamed bump.

‘In fact, I’m thinking of changing my name to Sty Stallone.’

‘Fancy doing my chat show?’ I asked.

‘Of course,’ he replied. ‘You’re the best.’

Cowell nearly choked on his beer.

‘No, he’s not.’

‘He is.’

‘He’s not. He’s the worst.’

‘He is?’ Sly turned back to me.

‘Sorry, I made a terrible mistake. Apparently you’re the worst.’

Cowell giggled loudly. Little things really do please little minds.

“Go for it!”

On March 25, 2010, USAToday posted a piece showing how movie lines are making their way into the political debates on health care.  Here’s where Sly comes in…

Then there’s the money line in Obama’s speech, his challenge to Republicans who want to repeal the health care bill: “Go for it.”

The Oval can’t help but wonder if the president was flashing on the less-than-classic Rocky III, released in 1982. Before the big fight, Sylvester Stallone’s heroic underdog character is confronted by the evil Clubber Lang (played by none other than Mr. T.)

“I’m going to bust you up,” Clubber says.

Rocky’s response: “Go for it.”

Needless to say, Rocky triumphs and goes on to another sequel.

Sly Buys Painting

On March 20, 2010, The Lancaster Eagle Gazette posted an article called Artist’s Abstract Catches Eye of Action Star StalloneSly was a judge in an art contest at the Arnold Sports Festival and a piece by Robert Wright really caught his eye.  Later Wright learned that he had won the “Sylvester Stallone Choice Award” and would be a personal guest of Sly’s at a VIP luncheon.  Things even got better when Wright learned that Sly wanted to buy the painting!

Here are a few of Wright’s comments about meeting Sly:

“I was surprised. I thought he would be this ego-driven monster, but that wasn’t the case at all,” Wright said. “He was very humble and seemed to be embarrassed by all the publicity.”

“He asked how much the painting was and I told him and he was shocked and said, ‘That’s all?… I thought, you know, I could charge him $8,000 instead [of $800], but I’m not going to cheat someone just because they’re a celebrity.”

That’s a photo of the painting Sly bought below and you can read the full article by clicking here.
