Bernard Kerik: The World Ain’t All Sunshine and Rainbows

Bernard B. Kerik was the Police Commissioner of New York City during the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.  With over 100 awards for meritorious, heroic and public service throughout his career  [including the New York City Police Department’s Medal for Valor and a Presidential Commendation for heroism], Mr. Kerik is also a best selling author [The Lost Son: A Life in Pursuit of Justice] and a founding member of the Board of Trustees of the Twin Towers Fund.

It’s sad to say, that Mr. Kerik is about to serve 48 months in a federal prison.  You can read more about his fall from grace at Mr. Kerik’s blog where he also says that in order to help prepare his daughters for his time in prison, they watched Rocky Balboa together…

I sat with them and watched the movie Rocky Balboa, for the sole purpose of having them watch one scene where Rocky speaks to his son and says, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are….it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward!

When Sly Stallone wrote those words, he was talking about the challenges in real life and the principles of courage, strength, and perseverance.

Sly & Sean Connery: Stone Age Ladies Men

According to this article in the Daily Mail, macho men like Sly Stallone and Sean Connery would have been a hit with the ladies in the stone age.  According to experts…

… the brute strength of macho men such as Sylvester Stallone and Sean Connery was key to getting the girl…

Seems to me that both Connery and Sly have done okay with the ladies in modern times as well.  Perhaps they are just men for the ages.

Mickey Rourke Credits Sly…

When Mickey Rourke was questioned about the outfit he wore to the Iron Man II premiere, he credited Sly with turning him on to the clothes designer.  According to this article, Rourke stated:

“[It’s] some kind of crocodile or something,” says Rourke. “It’s not real, though … I didn’t make it. A guy named David August made it. Sylvester Stallone turned me on to the guy. He’s really a rock and roll dude.”

Sly & Paula Abdul

On April 29, 2010, The Las Vegas Sun posted a nice article by Robin Leach about Sly and Paula Abdul in attendance at the celebration of Planet Hollywood into the Harrah’s “family”.  There are several nice photos of Sly with Paula and others.  Here are a couple of quotes from the piece:

… Sly said he’s thrilled with the results. “I’m doing the editing right now, and it’s going great. Everybody who sees just clips of it say it’s going to be the biggest action film of all time. Our bodies took a brutal beating. It was bloody, hand-to-hand combat, and you can see that onscreen…

…You couldn’t have dreamed up a better cast of action heroes, and I’m genuinely happy how we got them all to take part and even risk their lives and bodies for this project. There was incredible chemistry on the set between all of us, which was fantastic because it was a tough grind shooting all that action week after week for three solid months.”
