Sly spoke to reporters at the Venice Film Festival. Here’s some of what he had to say:
- On “The Expendable”: “Arnold, Bruce and I will be working together for the first time, maybe in two weeks, so I had to grow back my beard and get ready to film it in Los Angeles.”
- On “The Expendables”: “It’s very difficult to get us all together at the same time. It’s impossible to get all those egos in the same room.”
- On Rambo: “I don’t want to keep repeating myself and just doing films about war… This is a very psychological film about sophisticated man fighting primitive man.”
- On his career: “What’s very unusual in my life is that I’m now, at this age, starting to develop what I should have done 20 years ago which is more directing and writing and especially not the movies I am in.”
- On his career: “The key will be to direct other people and write for other people. Then that cycle will be broken.”
- On Movies: “The day of independent cinema is coming back. I think the young people in the audience are going to demand it. ‘Okay, we’ve seen enough fantasy, we’ve seen enough big spectacle, what about stories about us?'”
- On “The Expendables”: “I wanted to do a film that was more about men and just doing things that we did back in the ’80s and ’90s with films that were a little bit more men on men, and actual physical stunts and also a story that isn’t super-gigantic.”

On September 10, 2009, Variety.com posted a piece about films shooting in Louisiana and of course “The Expendables” leads the way. You can read the piece here.

It’s been a while since we heard from Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes. So it was good to hear word that things are well and receive photos of the two pieces of Stallone art he’d recently started on.

Hey guys,
Sketchin Sly little bit again. I paused this particular frame I love from JOHN RAMBO and tried to capture that energy.
One of the things I’ve always wrestled with as an artist is bringing my love of the rough “unfinished ” drawing into the painting realm. I’m gonna try it I think. I think that Ashley Wood guy sorta blends those to things together very nicely…
The one below I started last night.
I found an amazing Sergio Toppi video on youtube and it inspired me. I might add a comic type caption box, some palm trees and a couple of gawking fans way back in the distance.
The text could be something like… Stallone slipped into a daydream during a stroll through Beverly Hills when the entire idea and cast for The EXPENDABLES came flooding into Sly’s mind.
Or something to that effect.
More sketches and a new domain on the web soon too http://www.theartofjazzman.com/pages/newnewsPG.htm

It’s always great to hear from Jazz. I’m always impressed with his art and these last two pieces show that he continues to grow as an artist. Keep in touch, Jazz and thanks for sharing your talents.

Earlier this week, Bruce Willis confirmed that he will be joining the cast of “The Expendables.” As you can imagine, this news made waves throughout the web:

On August 29, 2009, UFC 102 will feature Randy “The Natural” Couture facing off against Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira in the main event. How cool would it be to see Sly Stallone with some behind the scenes “Expendables” footage to help promote the fight?
