Why Sylvester Stallone Should Not Make Rambo 5.

On May 2, 2012, Lindsay Johns, in the Daily Mail posted a compelling and heartfelt article: Why Sylvester Stallone Should Not Make Rambo 5.

I get where Lindsay Johns is coming from.  Rambo was a perfect bookend to the series… or was it.  Perhaps there is another story yet to tell.  Rambo is the reluctant warrior.  I trust Sly’s instincts… especially when he is at the helm.  Few had faith in a final Rocky or Rambo and we all know how they turned out.  – Craig

SZ Exclusive: Sly Confirms That Rambo…

With the Sly’s recent discussion about a new Rambo story brewing, there’s been a lot of speculation that Sly might kill off everyone’s favorite warrior. I received word from Sly who writes….

  • “When I said he goes out in a blaze of glory I didn’t mean his physical demise at all. Rambo will fade into perpetuity. Thank you.”

So no need to worry, Rambo’s not gong to see the Grim Reaper anytime soon! – Craig

MTV: Sly Speaks Positively About Rambo’s Return

On April 27, 2012, MTV posted a video interview with Sly where he discussed the potential return of Rambo.  Here’s a bit of what Sly had to say…

  • “There’s a volcanic eruption [brewing]. The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface,”
  • “It’s one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where he realizes what his destiny really is… It’s not to be a farmer, it’s not to be obscure; it’s to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that’s just his id? That’s who he is.
  • “I like the whole Mexican situation, what’s going on down there… So I’m working on a formula for it right now.”

Rambo 5 Still a Possibility?

According to a report posted at Movie Hole on February 9, 2012, writer Sean B. Hood (“Conan the Barbarian”) sent out the following tweet:

  • Rambo 5 on hold as Sly finishes Expendables 2. He hasn’t decided if R5 will be an “Unforgiven” or a “passing of the torch.”

Could this mean that Sly would be open to another outing as Rambo if the script was right?  I could definitely get behind an “Unforgiven” slant on the character.

Another Rambo and/or Another Rambo?

The image above is of a poster that is showing up around the Cannes Film Festival.  The back of the poster has the words Coming 2011.  So it would seem that earlier reports that Sly had decided not to return for another Rambo were wrong.  But were they?  Not according to this report from Harry at Ain’t It Cool NewsHarry says…

… Stallone told me in no uncertain terms – At the end of JOHN RAMBO – when he sees his home, those horses and he looks back at that road… for Sly, that was a road he is never walking down again.

Truthfully, I liked the idea of Rambo going into Mexico to rescue some kidnapped girls. Of course I also thought that the ending to Rambo was a perfect capper to the series. If Sly asked for my advice, I’d say, you can’t top perfection. Rambo has come full circle. Let’s end the series and do Hunter and another Expendables. After that, let’s see what else is out there. Perhaps Poe?

Before we leave the topic of another Rambo.  There could be another Rambo with another Rambo.  “Huh,” you say?  It has been floated that perhaps the series will return with someone else playing the character.  I do think that Rambo would be viable as an on-going series and different actors could step into the role… if enough time passes between Sly stepping down and the new person stepping up.  RIght now, I think it would be too soon.

Rambo #1 Again!

EmpireOnLine.com recently posted their list of The Top 25 Best One Man Armies in the Movies. Of course, Rambo came in at #1. Who could argue with that? The rest of the list can [and should] be debated. Isn’t that the purpose of lists? Here are my suggestions for the top ten:

  1. Rambo played by SYLVESTER STALLONE in FIRST BLOOD, RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD, PART II, RAMBO III, RAMBO
  2. Lee played by BRUCE LEE in ENTER THE DRAGON
  3. Bryan Mills played by LIAM NEESON in TAKEN
  4. Geno Felino played by STEVEN SEAGAL in OUT FOR JUSTICE
  5. Creasy played by DENZEL WASHINGTON in MAN ON FIRE
  6. Walker played by LEE MARVIN in POINT BLANK
  7. El Mariachi played by ANTONIO BANDERAS in DESPERADO, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO
  8. John Matrix played by ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER in COMMANDO

“Rambo: The Savage Hunt” Synopsis

Harry at AICN has scored again. This time he has a copy of the synopsis to “Rambo V: The Savage Hunt.”  The plot does sound like an adaptation of the novel Hunter written [with Sly in mind] by James Byron Huggins.  Since I’ve always pulled for Sly to make Hunter, I like the idea of adapting it to fit Rambo.  I also like the Harry thinks that they should drop the “V” from the movie title  [I suggested the same thing yesterday] and simply call the movie “Rambo: The Savage Hunt.”

You can read Harry’s full post here.

“Rambo V: The Savage Hunt”

On Friday, September 4th, Harry @ AICN posted about a conversation he had with Sly about the plot of the next Rambo movie.  Tentaively titled, “Rambo V: The Savage Hunt,” the story follows Rambo, who is brought to the Pacific Northwest to lead a Black Ops team, as they hunt down a genetically enhanced soldier created in a secret muilitary project.  Although Sly is still working on the story, it’s obvious that he’s ready to take Rambo in a new an unexpected direction.

Later Harry updated the report with a voice message from Sly himself [which you can hear] talking about his plans for Rambo.  You can read and hear the report here.

I like the new direction that Sly is leading Rambo.  Almost reminds me of the plot of Hunter (which I would still like to see Sly do).  I also like the proposed title for the film, but I would drop the “V” and just call it “Rambo: The Savage Hunt.”

Sly to Return as Rambo

The news broke today that Sylvester Stallone will return to write, direct and star as Rambo in a 5th film.  Word is that Rambo will be crossing the border to bring back a girl kidnapped by Mexican drug lords. As you can imagine, Sly returning to one of his signature characters is making headlines in places like:
