Ranking All “Rocky” / “Creed” Movies

Sam Stone at CBR.com recently posted Every Rocky Movie Ranked. Stone did this by averaging the professional critics’ scores from Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

Joe Leydon at Variety had the same idea so All Eight Rocky Movies Ranked were done by Joe.

Not to be outdone, John Orquiola at ScreenRant provided All 8 Rocky & Creed Movies Ranked.

Follow the links above to see the individual comments and rankings for each of the Rocky/Creed films.   I created a chart to make comparisons easier.  I also added my rankings in the last column.

It was interesting to see that except for Rocky at #1 and Creed as #2 there wasn’t a majority consensus for any other ranking.

5 Leroy Neiman Rocky Paintings and a Mystery!

Leroy Neiman, the world famous sports artist, made cameo appearances in Rocky 3, 4, 5 and Rocky Balboa. Neiman’s art could also be seen in several of the Rocky movies.   The most famous Neiman Rocky art is the painting shown above.  You’ll see copies hanging in many sports bars and man caves throughout the world.  I have one of the original release prints that my wife surprised me with when I was in college way back when the piece was first released. 

The painting above is the second most known Neiman Rocky painting.  It appeared at the very end of Rocky III.  To the best of my knowledge it was never released as an official Neiman print although there are many knock-offs and other artist copies out there.

Neiman created the painting above for Rocky V.  My understanding is it was released as a limited edition print for a fundraiser.  The print above was signed by Tommy Morrison.

The Neiman watercolor study above was offered up for auction and hopefully won by a Stallone fan.

And now for the mystery.  The very bad image above is of a Neiman Rocky piece that sharp-eyed fans spotted during a vintage Barbara Walters interview with Sly Stallone.  The art was/is in Sly Stallone’s personal collection.  Here’s the mystery — was the piece ever released as a print or shown anywhere else?  Are there any good copies of it around?  If anyone knows, please forward the information and I’ll be sure to share it.

Two Stallone Characters That Were Supposed to Die But Didn’t

Recently Mental_Floss  posted 14 Movie Characters Who Were Supposed to Die But Didn’t by Rudie Obias.

Guess who had two characters in the top 14?  That’s right, Sly and here’s what was said:

4. Rambo // First Blood

In the novel First Blood, Rambo commits suicide at the end of a long battle with Sheriff Teasle. Rambo’s death scene was filmed, but Sylvester Stallone saw the potential for a new franchise, so Rambo lived to fight another day in the final version.

 

5. Rocky Balboa // Rocky V

Rocky V was supposed to be the last movie in the franchise, and Stallone ended its screenplay accordingly, with Rocky Balboa dying at the hands of rival Tommy Gunn during a street fight. But during production, director John Avildsen got a call from executives telling him, “‘Oh by the way, Rocky’s not going to die,'” he recalled in 2014. “‘Batman doesn’t die, Superman, James Bond, these people don’t die.” Stallone wrote a new ending featuring Rocky and his son Robert Balboa jogging to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and looking over the city’s skyline.

Rocky 1 -5 Makes the List

On October 24, 2014, SciFighting posted the Top Ten Most Memorable Boxing Movies by Marcus Hogan.  Rocky [II, III, IV and V] came in at #1.  What?  Rocky Balboa didn’t make it?

1.) Rocky (II, III, IV, V)

Rocky was the highest-grossing film in 1976, making $225 million worldwide on a $1 million budget. The film was shot in only 28 days, but won 3 Oscars including Best Picture. It is the rags to riches story of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) who is a loan shark by day and boxer by night. Although this film is not considered non-fiction, former heavyweight boxer Charles “Chuck” Wepner claims that this and all the proceeding Rocky films where based on his life.
