NBC10 and “Rocky Balboa”

If you’ve been following Sly‘s filming of “Rocky Balboa” in Philly, you know that the best coverage is coming from the Channel 10, the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia. They’re doing a really great job, so you can imagine how pleased I was to receive the following e-mail from Lucy Barnett, the Senior Editor for NBC10.com:

I saw that you linked to our Rocky story. Feel free to link to our Rocky section, where we will post all the stories we do on the new movie and the filming in Philadelphia

Thanks Ms. Barnett. I’ll add a link directly to NBC10’s coverage on the front page of the SZ! – Craig

SZoner, Joe Breen Attends Vegas Filming

Dear Mr. Zablo,

I have visited your web site for a number of years. As a lifelong Stallone fan it is a pleasure to see someone dedicate a site to those who share the same sentiment about the powerful influence of this man’s works. Recently I traveled to Las Vegas to take part in the filming of “Rocky Balboa”, I have enclosed several photos of thje trip which you can share with fellow Zoners.

As a young actior and writer, it was more then the ideal opportunity to see the man who inspired me to begin on this path. Because of Mr. Stallone I was inspired to write my first script “Favelas” which I co-wrote with my good friend John Smalbein, who happens to be a mutual acquatence of both of us. Enjoy the pics and keep up the good work. – Joe Breen

Thanks, Joe! Best of Luck to you and John with your script. – Craig Zablo

Sly in USA Weekend

The January 13 – 15, 2006 issue of USA Weekend’s “Who’s News” section featured the following item about Sly:

Q: I hear that there is going to be a sixth Rocky movie. Details, please.
– Angel Marie Moll
Bellingham, Mass.

It won’t be out until 2007, but filming started last month and will continue with shoots in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. In this movie, the retired Rocky (Sylvester Stallone, who turns 60 this year) is lured back to the ring for one last fight. Titled “Rocky Balboa,” it is written and directed by Stallone, who was Oscar-nominated for writing and starring in the original 1976 film.

A different pic runs with the question. – Craig

Sly Directs with Passion

We’ve received several EXCLUSIVE pics from the Rocky Balboa filming in Las Vegas this past week. Ucon Cornelius took the above pic [as well as several more that we’ll post].

Here’s what Ucon Cornelius had to say:

Sly directs with passion. High above to the right, Sly has the monitors transferred above on the enlarged screen –something he wouldn’t have access to–to view the dailies. – Ucon Cornelius

Bill Pruitt’s New “Rocky Balboa” Painting

SZoner, CBEARHUG were and some friends met up with artist, Bill Pruitt back in July when they were visiting Universal City Walk. CBEARHUG sent in the following report:

Bill paints at, Cafe tu tu Tango, a popular bar and grill. All of the artists line up along the sides of the circular outside/inside bar and grill. There are usually 5-7 artists there at any one time. Bill’s work always stands out.

As luck would have it Bill was there working on a new Rocky Balboa painting. We all knew that Bill was a fantastic artist and a great guy, but what we didn’t know what is that he’s also an accomplished magician! Bill took time to show us a few tricks and to sign some autographs.

By the way, the Rocky painting should appear in a future issue of Sly.

Wow! Another awesome Bill Pruitt painting! CBear, thanks for the report! – Craig

Want to be in “ROCKY BALBOA”?

Garrison Taylor of BIG CROWD PRODUCTIONS got in touch with me because they are currently inviting individuals from across the country (and even the world) to attend one of three days of filming for Rocky Balboa in Las Vegas the first week of December 2005. The opportunity is to be a background audience spectator in the CLIMACTIC FIGHT SCENE that concludes this historic new film! Both individuals and large fundraising groups may sign up for this on their website at BeInAMovie.com.

How cool is that? SZonerChris Murphy is going. Maybe other SZoners will as well. It’s a great opportunity
and I truly hope that a bunch of you can make the trip.

Click HERE to find out more details. And please remember that I and other SZoners would love to see
pictures and read your reports if you do get to go!
