Sly, Rocky & Rambo: Awesome Dudes

Over at IFC, they decided to post a piece “in honor of ‘John Carter,’ ten awesome dude movies with dude’s names for titlesSly was the only actor to make the list twice [for “Rocky” and “Rambo”].  Here are some tidbits…

  • ROCKY: You tell me who’s more of a man’s man in Hollywood than Sylvester Stallone. I dare you. And don’t even start with all the Chuck Norris business. Stallone is The Dude to end all dudes… “Rocky” is a rags to riches, come from behind, American Dream story that every man can relate to, and one that millions have probably tried to emulate in one way or another. Stallone not only starred in the classic (and the subsequent sequels), but he also wrote and directed the film. Now that’s a guy who’s worthy of the title of Ultimate Dude.
  • RAMBO: No one believed that Stallone could make another great Rambo movie, especially when the actor was already over sixty years old. Well, he certainly proved everyone wrong… “Rambo” is easily one of the greatest Dude Movies of all time and is the perfect way to end this list.

That’s StalloneZoner, Mike Kunda on the set of the a documentary based on Mike’s excellent [and highly recommended] memoir Cue the Rocky Music.  The photo was taken by photographer/reporter Rich Howells for his article “Living the Dream” which details the path that Mike and  director Jim Toscano have taken to get the documentary made.

Mike is a long-time supporter and friend of the StalloneZoneFrank Stallone recently wrote…

  • Mike Kunda hands down is the greatest Rocky impersonator ever I saw . Has the smallest mannerisms down to a tee.

So, know you know more about Mike, how would you like the opportunity to appear along side him in the Rocky documentary?  If you’re a Rocky fan, here’s your chance!

Rocky @ Golden Globes

On January 18, 2012, Entertainment and Stars posted a piece titled, “Golden Globes 2012: Top 10 Show-Stealers Over the Years and Interesting Facts About Them.  Here’s what they had to say about “Rocky”

Rocky: “Rocky,” starring Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, arrived in 1976 and won the Golden Globe for Best Drama. The movie depicted the story of a struggling boxer, Balboa, trying to make a living working as a debt collector for a pittance. He gets the chance of his lifetime when heavyweight champion Apollo Creed visits Philadelphia and an exhibition match is held between Creed and Balboa.

Did You Know That  – “Rocky” was shot in just 28 days? Adrian’s last name was Klein in the original script? The photos on Rocky’s mirror are actual photos of Stallone as a young boy? The movie was the first sports film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture?

I scanned the photo above from the latest issue of Previews which is a catalog available through comic shops.  If you’re interested in one of the action figures, I’d put in an order soon.
