Rocky & Drago: Most Memorable Sports Characters

The BleacherReport.com recently posted their choices for The 20 Most Memorable Sports Movie Characters.

There is no surprise that Rocky Balboa made the list.  Here’s what they had to say…

Sylvester Stallone’s legendary boxing role is one of the most memorable roles in any film in any genre. It wasn’t Stallone’s first role, but it is the job that launched him into an epic Hollywood star.

The interesting addition to the list is that Ivan Drago also made the cut!  Here’s why…

Stallone’s Soviet counterpart in Rocky IV makes the list because he is one of the most infamous antagonists in sports film history.

Dolph Lundgren, who played Drago, fit the bill perfectly as the intimidating, steroid-infused, Red boxer through which the Patriotic Rocky sought vengeance.

Sly vs T-Rex!?!

My old buddy, Keith Kyker, sent in the picture above with a link to an article at POPSCI.com which asks [and answers] the question: “Could a Human Beat a T-Rex in Arm Wrestling?” Although the article [which you can read here] says, “No”, Keith says: “Of course, with the right music and script, it could turn-out differently. That’s why movies are made, right?”

Exactly, Keith. Great to hear from you and thanks for the link!

Sage Moonblood Makes the List

On September 10, 2009, SFGate.com ran a piece about unusual names celebrities have given their children. Of course, Sage Moonblood Stallone’s name made the list along Apple [Gweneth Paltrow and Chris Martin], Moxie Crimefighter [Penn and Emily Jillete], Rocket Rodriguez [Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan], Tu Morrow [Rob and Debbon Morrow].

You can check out the whole piece here.

A few days later Fashion.ie posted an even longer list of unusual celebrity names with “witty” commentary.
