SMILIN’ JACK RUBY LOOKS AT “DOLAN’S CADILLAC”

Smilin’ Jack Ruby (gotta love that name!) posted a very positive review of the script for “Dolan’s Cadillac” over at Fandom.com. Jack had some very interesting things to say…

  • “I had the opportunity to read the script and not being ABKing (SZ regular Andrew! – Craig Zablo), I am skeptical of all things Sly Stallone. Well, this role is tailor-made for him.”
  • “He’s the ultimate heavy, the kingpin of Las Vegas organized crime and the guy who runs the Mandarin Casino, which rises high over the strip.”
  • “I have read the script and it’s pretty interesting. You wouldn’t think it, but it actually combines some elements of The Shawshank Redemption into a revenge thriller, though this story never tries to get to that level. It’s a revenge pic, pure and simple.”
  • “If you read the short story, you’ll find out what this big revenge thing is. Needless to say, it is something incredibly cinematic that makes me really, REALLY want to see this movie.”
  • “Kevin Bacon as Tom is perfect casting…”
  • “I’m sure this will turn into a project with a lot of good actors as the parts are well written.”
  • “I have to hand it to Sandy Title and Jonathan Penner, this is an adaptation I want to see…”
  • “It is well-cast, well-written… really keeps the tone of Stephen King intact in the script.”

STALLONE VS GIBSON

The February 25 – March 4, 2002 issue of US Weekly contains an article in the “The Hot Stuff” section titled “Sly Vs. Mel”

Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson are calling a cop – the same cop. Sources say the two Hollywood heavyweights are trying to woo former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik with lunches and meetings in an attempt to get the rights to his best-selling autobiography, The Lost Son: A Life in the Pursuit of Justice. “They’re really fighting each other over it,” says one insider. Also interested in the book rights, according to another source, is Robert DeNiro. The tables have turned since Kerik took Stallone to Ground Zero two months ago in an attempt to ingratiate himself with the actor. Now a competition has sprung up, and, says one source, “Kerik’s in the driver’s seat.”

“Rocky” Musical Coming and Maybe “Dolan’s Cadillac” Too!

Army Archerd, Daily Variety Senior Columnist, posted in his column:

“Rocky” steps into the ring again — this time on stage. SYLVESTER STALLONE heads to N.Y. next week to talk a musicalized version of the hit pix. He cowrote the book, would produce and oversee” the Broadway version. As for STALLONE’s film future, he says he’s re-interested in doing “Dolan’s Cadillac,” and will do it next year.

Sly Says, “Show Me the Money” or “I Thought it was Dropped”

From Dark Horizons

Dolan’s Cadillac: The New York Daily News seems to have found a reason for STALLONE’s departure from the project, and it ain’t the “non violence clause” excuse that emerged the other day – seems SLY “upped his money demands at the last minute” though the official word from his publicists is that the actor “thought the project had been dropped”. STACY TITLE [“The Last Supper”] is still attached to direct the film based on her script adaptation of the STEPHEN KING short story. Thanks to ‘AB King’.

Sly Departs “Dolan’s Cadillac”

From Dark Horizons –

Dolan’s Cadillac: The New York Daily News reports that SYLVESTER STALLONE is out of this short story turned movie thriller which was set to start shooting very soon and is based on the first tale from STEPHEN KING’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes anthology. The paper indicates that he may have left due to a new ‘non-violence’ policy SLY is adopting for his roles these days thus playing a violent gangster is kind of out of the question. KEVIN BACON is still set to play the teacher who gets revenge on the gangster who killed his wife by slowly burying him alive, though how much of a delay there will be due to SLY’s leaving remains unsure.

“Dolan’s Cadillac” Scouting Vegas Locations!

From Carol Cling‘s Shooting Stars column in the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

“And currently scouting around town: “Dolan’s Cadillac,” based on a STEPHEN KING tale, about a science teacher who extracts complex revenge when a Las Vegas mobster murders his wife, who witnessed a hit.  SYLVESTER STALLONE, who starred as a Vegas-based hit man in the “Get Carter” remake, plays the mobster. Cameras are expected to roll around the first of the year with STACY TITLE [“The Last Supper”] directing.

SYLVESTER STALLONE’S “THE PRIEST” in DEVELOPMENT

“Stallone, Glenn Catch CBS’ Eye with ’02 Dramas” was the headline of Nellie Andreeva’s article in The Hollywood Reporter.  Here’s what Andreeva had to say about Sly’s project…

The network is finalizing a deal with Brad Grey Television for a project tentatively titled “The Priest,” which is based on an idea by Sylvester Stallone.

“The Priest” centers on a nonconformist priest in a big city, who helps both homeless and rich people with their problems, while struggling with personal problems of his own, including fidelity. The project is expected to get a premium script deal from CBS.

Brad Grey is in conversations with writer Cynthia Cidre (“The Mambo Kings”) to come on board and co-create the show with Stallone. Stallone will executive produce the project, and Jimmy Veres, who runs the television division of the actor’s Sylvester Stallone Co., will produce.

Stallone has been very active in television lately. He recently sold a NASCAR-themed pitch to NBC.

Stallone, who most recently co-starred in “Driven,” and his company are repped by ICM and Brillstein-Grey. Cidre is repped by WMA.

Paul Anderson Wants Sly to Return as Machine Gun Joe!

On Tuesday, Dark Horizons posted information from a Q & A session with director PAUL ANDERSON. SLY fans will be excited to hear that ANDERSON‘s next project is “Death Race 3000” and that ANDERSON is confident that TOM CRUISE will play the lead character… and ANDERSON “mentioned that he wanted SYLVESTER STALLONE to return and play the same role that he played in the original.”

Sly in Total Film

Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes sent in the pic and quotes from:

TOTAL FILM [August 2001/issue 55]

— “Ask him which movies he rates from the past, and he’ll list First Blood, Nighthawks, F.I.S.T.and Cop Land. Ask about the choices he’s likely to make in the future, and he’ll stress that he’s looking for more ensemble pieces, more character work. ”

— “There’s a kind of thrill at seeing something that came off the page being enacted before your very eyes as opposed to just being an actor for hire.”

— “Next up he’s acting opposite MADELINE STOWE as a mafia bodyguard wanting payback for his boss’ murder in Avenging Angelo, before carrying on down the revenge trail as a widower out for justice in Dolan’s Cadillac. “

— “In fact neither the remake of Get Carter nor cop thriller Eye See You (aka Detox) look likely to get theatrical release over here (UK ).”

— “His career did perk up momentarily , however, when racing movie Driven thrust him onto the winners podium as it took the number one spot at the US box office in April.”

Thanks to Jazz for sharing!

Sly to Direct “Driven 2”

In the Reel World column of Entertainment Weekly, the following item appears:

SLY NEWS: SYLVESTER STALLONE is pining to direct “Driven 2” [we must have missed the avalanche of “popular demand” for that particular follow-up] but he says first he’d like to tackle “an ambitious project that deals with a historical event.” Maybe he’s up for a Rambo sequel after all… [Additional reporting by William Keck]
