Sly and the Family Stallone News for the Week

Sly and the Family Stallone News for the Week:

“Rocky” Musical Coming and Maybe “Dolan’s Cadillac” Too!

Army Archerd, Daily Variety Senior Columnist, posted in his column:

“Rocky” steps into the ring again — this time on stage. SYLVESTER STALLONE heads to N.Y. next week to talk a musicalized version of the hit pix. He cowrote the book, would produce and oversee” the Broadway version. As for STALLONE’s film future, he says he’s re-interested in doing “Dolan’s Cadillac,” and will do it next year.

Sly Says, “Show Me the Money” or “I Thought it was Dropped”

From Dark Horizons

Dolan’s Cadillac: The New York Daily News seems to have found a reason for STALLONE’s departure from the project, and it ain’t the “non violence clause” excuse that emerged the other day – seems SLY “upped his money demands at the last minute” though the official word from his publicists is that the actor “thought the project had been dropped”. STACY TITLE [“The Last Supper”] is still attached to direct the film based on her script adaptation of the STEPHEN KING short story. Thanks to ‘AB King’.

Sly Departs “Dolan’s Cadillac”

From Dark Horizons –

Dolan’s Cadillac: The New York Daily News reports that SYLVESTER STALLONE is out of this short story turned movie thriller which was set to start shooting very soon and is based on the first tale from STEPHEN KING’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes anthology. The paper indicates that he may have left due to a new ‘non-violence’ policy SLY is adopting for his roles these days thus playing a violent gangster is kind of out of the question. KEVIN BACON is still set to play the teacher who gets revenge on the gangster who killed his wife by slowly burying him alive, though how much of a delay there will be due to SLY’s leaving remains unsure.

“Dolan’s Cadillac” Scouting Vegas Locations!

From Carol Cling‘s Shooting Stars column in the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

“And currently scouting around town: “Dolan’s Cadillac,” based on a STEPHEN KING tale, about a science teacher who extracts complex revenge when a Las Vegas mobster murders his wife, who witnessed a hit.  SYLVESTER STALLONE, who starred as a Vegas-based hit man in the “Get Carter” remake, plays the mobster. Cameras are expected to roll around the first of the year with STACY TITLE [“The Last Supper”] directing.

SLY IN TOTAL FILM

Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes sent in the pics and quotes from TOTAL FILM (August 2001/issue 55)

  • “Ask him which movies he rates from the past, and he’ll list  First BloodNighthawksF.I.S.T. and Cop Land. Ask about the choices he’s likely to make in the future, and he’ll stress that he’s looking for more ensemble pieces, more character work. “
  • “There’s a kind of thrill at seeing something that came off the page being enacted before your very eyes as opposed to just being an actor for hire.”
  • “Next up he’s acting opposite Madeline Stowe as a mafia bodyguard wanting payback for his boss’ murder in Avenging Angelo, before carrying on down the revenge trail as a widower out for justice in Dolan’s Cadillac.”
  • “In fact neither the remake of Get Carter nor cop thriller Eye See You (aka Detox) look likely to get theatrical release over here (UK ).”
  • “His career did perk up momentarily , however, when racing movie Driven thrust him onto the winners podium as it took the number one spot at the US box office in April.”

3 STALLONE ITEMS & STALLONEZONE RECOGITION!

Here are four interesting Sly tidbits:

1. In the September 10, 2001 issue of US Weekly, Sly is mentioned in Michael Lewittes “The Scene” column: Sylvester Stallone, in an olive-green suit, chomping on a cigar and eating dinner with 15 Minutes writer-director John Herzfeld in the back of Elaine’s in New York.

2. SylvesterStallone.com updated last week with three voice messages from the man himself. Sly talks about the possibility of Rocky 6, Rocky on Broadway, several tv series that he is developing (but not going to star in, plus Avenging Angelo, Dolan’s Cadillac, and more!

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS posted a news item (written by SZ regular Andrew aka ABKing) about the update as well.

3. On Tuesday, Dark Horizons posted information from a Q & A session with director Paul Anderson. Sly fans will be excited to hear that Anderson’s next project is “Death Race 3000” and that Anderson is confident that Tom Cruise will play the lead character and Anderson “mentioned that he wanted Sylvester Stallone to return and play the same role that he played in the original.”

4. TV Today (a German magazine) recently ran piece on Celebrity Websites. We are proud to say that the Sylvester Stallone site that they chose to profile was Craig Zablo’s StalloneZone! That’s right, SZoners, we were recognized in Germany! Thanks to Lot Of Sly for giving us the heads-up on the article. I would also like to thank John Beatty, Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes, and Rob “rOb” deVera – the best non-paid staff anywhere. I would also like to thank all of the SZoners who support our efforts… and of course Mr. Sylvester Stallone. (The article is reprinted above — if anyone could translate it, it would be greatly appreciated!)
