Man, I can’t wait. Stallone did such a good job with the previous Rockys…and he’s coming back to do it again! How cool is that? Not only that, he has trained to provide a really “first-class exhibition”!

Discontinuity in the Rocky movies is a given. One just has to be at peace with that fact (or ignore it all together) and take the movie for what it is: a bit of escapism and alot of entertainment.

WOW!!! I just got done reading that long winded objection filled banter about how bad the chronology of the Rocky movies are! Ok, if you get right down to it the entire Rocky story, from 1 to 5 could have taken place in about 5 years or less. Rocky fights Apollo Jan ’76. Thogh Rocky II doesn’t premier ’till ’79, the settin for the fight is Thanksgiving ’76. Rocky is champ for 3 years before having his ass handed to him by Clubber. He wins a rematch and the story then picks up again in RockyIV. So one could argue that all this has taken place between ’79 and 80. So theoretically Rocky IV could have taken place Christmas, 1980. But if you have an imagination, and obviously that guy doesn’t, one could surmise that maybe a few months here and there can be added to give it some continuity. But honestly, who cares? I don’t believe these inconsistensies make or break a Rocky movie. And fyi, Vito M. (can’t spell his last name) was 28 years old at the time of shooting for Rocky Balboa. My question is this. If you hated the last three Rocky movies so much why are you looking forward to another one? And as for Paulie’s character people change. And I don’t think a person like Rocky could have a close friendship and make it believable for 30 years if there wasn’t something lovable about the guy. It’s called character development. Remember in Rocky II he wasn’t quite as mean as the first and even offered Rocky money to get by on. And in 3 he had a breakdown because of his jealousy, but you learn later on he’s not as bad as he seemed. Great, now I’m as long winded as the guy complaining!!! Just have fun!!!

Rocky’s back for a 6th and final time, i cant wait. I loved all the movies and the emotive soundtracks. Lets hope sly finishes the saga well – i’d hate to see it ruined. I have faith though! Go Sly – you are great, and a legend !

Ok. I can’t take all these ignorant Rocky fans anymore about this chronology issue. Not that it matters in the end, but people need to be set straight.

…Even though 14 years had passed from the creation of the first and the debut of the last. (1976-1990)
Rocky plays a 39 or 40 year old boxer in Rocky IV. He marries at 31 in Part II and celebrates his 9th wedding Anniversary in Rocky IV, which would make him the aforementioned age. Part V takes place right after Part IV. So Rocky’s 40 or 41, even though he was more like 45 in real life.
“Rocky Balboa” will take place about 15 years after the last Rocky, which is coincidentally the SAME amount of time that has passed since Rocky V was made. Balboa will play about 54. Slightly younger than what he is.
So there IS continuity in this movie. TOTALLY. (I.E, about 15 years since the Rocky V debut, and about 15 years later for “Balboa” in the story.)
The record has now been set straight.

I am really glad they went ahead and finally made this movie! Rocky is a great character. I wish there were someway they could keep it going with other actors….hey look at 007..wouldnt he be like 100 by now? I know…who could play Rocky other than Stallone..No One!! Cant wait till December!
Some of you fans may be able to explain away the inconsistant Rocky timeline to your little heart’s content, but none of you can escape the glaring age difference in Rocky Jr between IV and V. I mean, c’mon! The kid goes from being like 7 to being like 13! No amount of linguistic gymnastics can explain that. Even for you diehards.
