Global Icon Sylvester Stallone Signs Deal with Sports Placement Service

Los Angeles – In an effort to prevent fraudulent autographs and movie merchandise from entering the collectables arena, Sylvester Stallone has signed a historic deal with Harlan J. Werner’s Sports Placement Service. “The fans want and deserve the genuine article,” said Stallone. ” “I have granted SPS the exclusive rights to create product for the memorabilia industry that I will personally sign.”

“I, along with my partner in the venture, Nick Cordasco of Authentic Signings, Inc. are honored to enter into this agreement with Mr. Stallone. This certainly becomes the most significant deal within the entertainment memorabilia industry and we look forward to offering a complete line of limited and licensed product over the coming months,” Werner said.

Nick also sent along Authentic Signings Facebook Page link and that Walt Wizard is going to make the replicas of the Rocky trunks, robes and other items for this deal. – Craig

Sly & Arnold in “Contra”

Ask any die hard Stallone or Schwarzenegger fan about the first time that the dynamic duo first appeared together and you’ll get the easy answer: The Expendables.

That’s the correct answer if you don’t count that Sly and Arnold’s “likenesses” were used for the old school video game Contra.

MTV Multiplayer recently posted that John Harmon, who is known for his custom made action figures, recently created figures for Contra.  Yep.  Arnold and Sly.  No question. – Craig

Chris Flick Asks, “Why isn’t Stallone in The Avengers?”

Chris Flick of Capes and Babes makes his second appearance in my Stallone Theme Sketch Collection.  I had the good fortune to sit with Chris, LittleJohn312 and Patricia at last year’s Heroes Con Drink and Draw event.  What a great evening!  Ah, but I digress…

Chris Flick worked up this cool sketch of Sly wondering why he was invited to be an Avenger.  You can learn more about Chris as well as check out his popular Cape and Babes webcomic.

Mangold on Getting Stallone for “Cop Land”

James Mangold who directed the just released Wolverine recently spoke about his experience in getting Stallone for Cop Land

“I didn’t want him in my movie,” [Mangold] laughs. [Mangold] told the agent he thought it was a terrible idea.

“He said why. I go, ‘He’s a joke, he’s like a Planet Hollywood jacket-wearing, entourage-driving … he hasn’t made a good movie in years.’ I love Sly by the way, he’s a friend to this day, but I felt like I would be nothing but a mockery to my cool friends to be making a movie with Sly.”

The agent told him to tell this to Stallone’s face, so the two met over dinner in New York. What ?he found was “an incredibly intelligent man”. Mangold changed his mind, but attached ?13 conditions, including that Stallone would have to gain 40-50lbs, he couldn’t change the script, and he could not leave the set early. Not one rule was broken.

“Fruitville Station” Duo Team with Sly Stallone for “Creed”

The news broke this week that MGM is moving forward with Creed to be directed by Ryan Coogler and to pair him with his Fruitville Station star, Michael B. Jordan in the starring role of Apollo Creed’s grandson.

Coogler and Jordan teamed for Fruitville Station which won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Awards at the Sundance Film Festival.  This has been Coogler’s dream project for some time and appears to be on the fast track due to the success of Fruitville Station and the participation of Jordan and Sly Stallone.

Stallone would reprise his role as Rocky Balboa.  Creed will follow the story of Apollo Creed’s grandson who has been raised in privilege thanks to the fortune Apollo Creed earned in the ring. His grandson wants to box, but his family is against it – he doesn’t need the money and his grandfather was killed in the ring.  So he turns to his grandfather’s biggest rival [the man who took his title] and who also cornered his grandfather in the fight that killed him… Rocky Balboa.  Rocky has long been retired and has little desire to return to the sport.

Creed will be produced by Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff, who produced the Rocky series, and joining them will be Stallone and Kevin King.
