On Janauary 29, 2009, Mirror.co.uk listed their choices for the Five Best Football Movies of All Time. Victory was listed in the top spot. Here’s what they had to say:
Any football film starring Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone, Bobby Moore, Osvaldo Ardiles and Pelé deserves to top this list. Escape To Victory is a classic football flick that sees our heroes getting one over on the Germans while playing some very attractive football. The plot may be wafer thin and some of the acting wooden, but it’s compelling viewing for any football fan.

On January 29, 2009, Fox News posted a piece titled, “Sly Stallone buys Restaurant to Keep Wife From Cooking.” It ran with the photo above and the news that Planet Hollywood had purchased Buca di Beppo. Sly was quoted a couple of times, saying:
“If someone said you have to eat one kind of food for the rest of your life, Irish, English, German or Italian, it’s Italian,” Stallone told Fox News of Buca di Beppo’s fare.
“And the beauty of this is, my wife doesn’t have to cook for a long, long time,” Stallone joked. “Thank God.”

“Mickey, if anybody deserves an Oscar, it’s you. No question about it. You lived it. You earned it. You deserve it. You’re an incredibly talented man. It’s about time everyone says, ‘You know what. Give it to the winner.'”
