“Champs” Filming
GARTH over at Dark Horizons has uncovered more filming locations for “Champs.” This Sunday filming will take place at the Detroit Grand Prix. Several scenes are scheduled to be filmed in front of the expected crowd of 200,000.
Then during the weekend of July 14-16, filming will move to the Molson Indy Track in Toronto. MolsonIndy.com has posted the following:

“CART’s SLY Strategy”… In an effort to increase public awareness of Champ Car racing, actor SYLVESTER STALLONE has created a feature movie based on the FedEx Championship Series. The film, whose working title is ‘Champs’ will be produced by Franchise Pictures in cooperation with CART, and portions of the film will be shot at the Molson Indy track in Toronto. “CART‘s brand of open-wheel auto racing provides some of the most thrilling, emotionally involving and inspiring racing in the world,” says STALLONE.” It is extremely important to me that we create a film that accurately depicts the true sense of CART – the emotion, excitement, speed, technology and glamour that is Champ Car racing.” Stallone has begun shooting at various tracks on the FedEx Championship Series circuit. Dark Horizons posts a “Champs” casting scoop: It looks like KIP PERDUE [“Remember the Titans”] has the part of the young hotshot driver. In addition comes the news that GINA GERSHON [“Showgirls”] will play SLY‘s ex-wife.
Burt Reynold Joins Sly in “Champs”
The Hollwood Reporter announced that BURT REYNOLDS will join SYLVESTER STALLONE in the cast of the auto-racing actioner “Champs” which begins filming next month. RENNY HARLIN is set to direct from a screenplay by SLY STALLONE. BURT REYNOLDS will play a wheelchair-bound former driver.

SYLVESTER STALLONE‘s CART-Based Movie ‘Champs’ Continues Filming at Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix Of Detroit
DETROIT, June 14 /PRNewswire/ — Franchise Pictures, the production company for the Champ Car-based film preliminarily entitled “Champs,” will continue shooting footage for the feature at this weekend’s 19th Annual Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit.
SYLVESTER STALLONE, featured star and producer of the film, will be at The Raceway on Belle Isle to continue work on the project. Cast members joining STALLONE at Detroit are supermodel ESTELLA WARREN and German actor TILL SCHWEIGER.
The focal points of this weekend’s filming will be post-race celebrations and Victory Circle activities. This will occur after the formal victory ceremonies for the CART FedEx Championship Series race on Sunday afternoon. Additionally, over 200 film crew members will gather aerial footage from helicopters over Belle Isle, shoot on-track action from the pace cars, and do work in the pits throughout the race weekend which is sanctioned by Troy, Mich.-based Championship Auto Racing Teams.
“Champs” is scheduled for release to more than 3,000 movie theaters in the summer 2001. The film is being distributed by Warner Brothers.

The July issue of Movieline contains a piece called “100 Factoids of Love” by Leigh Niles. Factoid #49 contains the following along with a small picture of SLY and JENNIFER: Sylvester Stallone broke up with his girlfriend of five years, model Jennifer Flavin, by FedEx-ing her a letter in 1994, when he began dating Angie Everhart; a year and a half later, he went back to Flavin and she married him.

While surfing the net I discovered the above statue up for auction at e-Bay.com. Because of the rarity of the piece, I thought it would be of interest to SYLVESTER STALLONE fans. Although no images appear with the auction listing, the owner of the statute quickly responded to my e-mail request for pictures and gave his permission for me to publish them on the SZ. This is a fantastic collectible and a must for the ROCKY and Sylvester Stallone fan.
This statue was commissioned and issued in a very limited number by United Artists Corporation in 1979 for the film ROCKY II starring Sylvester Stallone and Carl Weathers.
It was created by renowned sculptor Giovanni Schoeman.
It depicts Rocky Balboa “The Italian Stallion” and Apollo Creed fighting it out in the ring with incredible detail, power and grace.
Stallone’s and Weather’s signature appear on the bottom.
The artist’s signature appears on the left side; the United Artists Corporation logo appears on the right side.
It is plaster cast with bronze enamel paint.
The appearance is gorgeous.
I have owned and treasured this item for 21 years!
It is in excellent condition with only a small number of extremely tiny paint chips on the bottom and in no way detracts from the beauty of this piece.
Measures 10.5″ long x 6.25″ wide x 12″ tall.
