Speculation on Expendables II

This week there has been a lot of speculation about Expendables II:

Sly to Receive: Hollywood Career Achievement Award

On October 4, 2010, it was announced that…

The 14th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards, presented by Starz, are pleased to announce that Hollywood icon and Academy Award-nominated Sylvester Stallone will receive the “Hollywood Career Achievement Award,” Oscar-winning Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary will be recognized with the “Hollywood Innovator Award,” and director Tom Hooper will be honored with the “Hollywood Director Award” at the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony.

“It is a privilege to honor and to celebrate Sylvester Stallone‘s extraordinary talent and remarkable career, as well as the great innovative work of Morgan Freeman and Lorie McCreary in the convergence of technology and filmmaking, and the outstanding directing talent of Tom Hooper in his new film “The King’s Speech,” said Carlos de Abreu, Founder of the Hollywood Awards Gala.

The press release also has this to say about Sly:

ABOUT SYLVESTER STALLONE

Academy-nominated Sylvester Stallone has received worldwide recognition as an actor, writer and director ever since he played the title role in his own screenplay of “Rocky,” which won the Academy Award in 1977 for Best Picture, and brought Oscar® nominations to Stallone for acting and writing.

After the success of that seminal motion picture, “Rocky” grew into a franchise of five sequels. In 2006, Stallone concluded the series with “Rocky Balboa,” a critical and popular success that resolutely confirmed both Stallone and “Rocky” as iconic cultural symbols.

Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed and starred in “Rambo,” which continued the saga of Vietnam vet John Rambo 25 years after the debut of “Rambo: First Blood,” shot on location in Burma.

This summer, he released his most ambitious project to date — the action thriller “The Expendables” — which he wrote, directed and starred in, and which opened as Number One at the Box Office, making him the only actor to open Number One Films across Five Decades.

Sylvester Stallone‘s first role came in 1974 when he was cast as one of the leads in “The Lords of Flatbush.” He also received his first writing credit for additional dialogue on the film.

Stallone’s other credits as actor/writer/director are Rocky II and Paradise Alley. As actor and co-writer, Stallone filmed “F.I.S.T.,” “Rambo: First Blood Part II,” “Rhinestone and Rambo III.” He co-wrote, directed and produced “Staying Alive” and starred in “Nighthawks,” “Victory,” “Tango & Cash and Lock Up. Rocky V, starring and written by Stallone, opened in 1990.

He also starred in “Demolition Man,” “The Specialist,” “Assassins and Daylight.” He starred in the challenging and unique role of Freddy Hefli in “Cop Land,” had the starring role in “Get Carter,”  and wrote and starred in the number one box office race-car thriller “Driven.” He filmed “Avenging Angelo” and starred as “The Toymaker” in the hit film “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. “

I don’t know about you, but I have pre-ordered mine!

Otis Frampton: Cop Land

Otis Frampton’s art is no stranger to the StalloneZone.  I’ve told you about Otis’ 7-7-7 Sundays before.  I’ve been fortunate enough to get three previous sketches from OtisRambo, Jack Carter and Cosmo CarboniYou can see them here.

I finally got to meet Otis in person at Heroes Con last year.  When Otis attends conventions he has sketchbooks that he sells for a buck each.  Yep, one buck.  And to make the deal even more enticing, Otis includes a free headsketch.  For mine he did Freddy from Cop Land.  I would have gladly paid a buck a piece to have Otis draw Sly from every movie he’s done, but the idea is to get new fans to give Otis’ work a look.  So instead, whenever I ran into a friend who’d never heard of Otis I’d slap a buck down and buy ’em a copy of the sketchbook with a free headsketch.  Luckily none of them requested Sly, or I might have had to keep the copy for myself.  ; )

Thanks to SZoners!

Back in February of 07, I posted a piece about a StalloneZoner from Thailand named Paan who had a very cool collection of custom-made Stallone mini-standees.  You can imagine my surprise when yesterday I received a surprise package from Thailand containing a full set [plus a few more not seen above] of the Stallone mini-standees.

Earlier in the week I received another unexpected package.  This time it was from Belgium.  That meant that my buddy Alex [who has met more celebrities than most people have met people] had gifted me with a surprise.  And what a surprise it was!  Alex had sent me a personalized photo of Julie Bentz from Rambo.

I am always humbled when I hear from fans who appreciate the StalloneZone.  I love it when I hear of friendships that have formed between folks who would have otherwise never met, but did because of the SZ.  It’s cool to hear from fans who have met Sly or Frank because of something posted on the StalloneZone.  I’ve always said Stallone fans are the best.  And I only say that because it’s true.  Thanks to all of you for making the StalloneZone the #1 Stallone Fan Site in the World.  And a special thanks to Paan and Alex for the surprise gifts! – Craig

Paul Wintner’s Stallone Props

SZoner, Paul Wintner checked in to show us his latest Stallone props.  That’s Paul in the pic above decked out in his Rambo III stick fighting outfit.  Below is a shot of two of the gun props used in The Expendables.

Paul’s company worked on Slys last three films: Rocky BalboaRambo and The Expendables.  His voice talent did all the voice overs for the trailers and tv spots.  Here’s a link to Paul’s Stallone prop site.  Thanks to Paul for keeping us in the loop. – Craig

Stallone Fan Art

SZoner, Sherry Hutchinson is back with a piece she calls Surreal Stallone.  Take it away, Sherry

Craig,
Well, here is the latest.  It is a bit different.  Kind of a morph of Rocky, Rambo and Expendables.  His chest is the 1955 Ford from Expendables.  Also see Oscar, Philly steps, Rambo knife, raven, live simply whale, weights and Butkus.
Could you ask for comments to be sent to sherry_hutchison@yahoo.com?  I love to hear what people think.
Thanks,
Sherry
I love the thought that went into this one.  Thanks for sharing your talents. – Craig
