“Get Carter” – Total Movie Coverage
The picture above appears twice [once in the table of contents and again as a TWO page spread] in the premiere issue of Total Movie. Here’s their take on
Get Carter
IN A NUTSHELL: Back on the screen for the first time since 1997’s Cop Land, STALLONE heads up this remake of the 1971 MICHAEL CAINE classic as Jack Carter, a bad-ass New York mob enforcer who travels to Los Angeles to kill the sons-of-bitches who murdered his brother. Heads are cracked, asses are kicked and bad guys throughly pummeled as Carter goes on a vengence-fueled rampage though LA’s criminal underworld.
POTENTIAL: The script’s written by TED LEWIS, who wrote the orginal, and DAVID McKENNA, who wrote American History X – a promising team. STEVEN SODERBERG‘s awesome The Limey proved that these old-school one-man-army thrillers can still pay off in spades, so our hopes are high. And yes, MICHAEL CAINE is back, too.
PITTFALLS: Even MEL GIBSON had a hard time getting audiences to root for the bad guy in the underrated Payback, so what chance STALLONE? In the 1990s he served up such crud as Judge Dredd, Assassins, Daylight, Oscar, The Specialist, and Cliffhanger (come on, it was crap) – not exactly encouraging evidence of his choices of material. Oh, and MICKEY ROURKE‘s in it.
TOTAL MOVIE SAYS: Go and rent the original for an idea about why we’re excited to see this one – STALLONE‘s stepped in a few turds lately, true, but we have a feeling this hard-edged crime caper will prove that he can still get it done.
The editors are pretty down on many of SLY‘s movies yet they still eagerly anticpate “Get Carter” – I think that says a lot about the potential of this movie. I’m looking forward to this as much as I did “Cop Land” and feel that it has the potential to be as good [or even better].
This is Total Movie‘s first issue and it is very impressive… enough so that I plan to subscribe. It’s worth checking out but be sure that if you purchase an issue it is still in a plastic bag with a dvd attached. The dvd contains over two hours of movie previews, behind the scenes material and more! The first store I went to had only opened copies and all the dvds were missing!

Sly & Arnold by Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes
Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes has been toying with the idea of a painting of Sly and Arnold for a while. In the midst of all that he’s been doing (his regular 9 to 5, helping score a friend’s film, working on his own independent short, etc.) inspiration struck! Jazz has this to say about the work-in-progress:
Here is a sketch version of what might be one of the candidates for a Sly/Arnie painting. I’m sooo indecisive it’s insane.
With this piece I was trying for something expressive with some humor and a touch of YELLOW SUBMARINE influence added in ( hand with blade ). I’ve never consciously tried to conjure up influences but what the hey. It was sort of fun.
I wish this could be done before “GET CARTER” comes out but it won’t happen with my schedule. I am getting better with scheduling my time though. Maybe I can do a Sly face study painting soon.
BTW pretty soon I’ll be filming some exteriors for “BLACK CAPRICORN DAY” this fall. I’ll be strapping myself to the top of a UHAUL to film a high tracking shot of swurving car. So if I’m not on the SZ messageboard for awhile that’s because I’m in a body cast (lol) .
Peace , JAZZMAN

“Diner to the Stars”
US Weekly has a tidbit called “Diner to the Stars” in the Hot Stuff section. The piece is accompanied by very small pics of SLY, MEL GIBSON, DARYL HANNAH and LEONARDO DICAPRIO. Apparently the above named celebs have all been seen eating at a diner called Roni’s on Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills.

Stallone and Schwarzenegger Planning a Project Together!
Cinescape.com posted an item today from the L.A. Times saying that : SLY and ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER have been talking about working on a project together. ARNOLD wants an all-star ensemble cast movie, ala “The Great Escape.” SLY is said to prefer that they appear as adversaries. It’s further reported that it all comes down to when the two agree on a script for the project.
What’s interesting to me about this item, is that the SZ reported (via AIN’T IT COOL NEWS) almost the exact same thing way back on December 12, 1999. The question now becomes: is this the same item finally making it’s way to the “mainstream” press or has their been further movement towards the project coming to fruition? Stay tuned for further details!

Sly News at Dark Horizons
Garth over at Dark Horizons has posted several STALLONE items this past week.
On Wednesday, he scored some cool photos from the set of “Champs.” “Mr. Fast Cars & Fast Women” sent in three shots (one of which is reprinted above). Garth also printed the news from Chud.com that SLY may team with VIN DIESEL for “X vs Sever.”
On Thursday “LordBeer” submitted his report of “Champs” filming at the Target Grand Prix.
Friday saw one of the strangest items in a while… apparently JACKIE CHAN mentioned in an interview in the UK that he and SLY had been talking about teaming for “Rambo IV.”
For full details on these items check out Dark Horizons.
I certainly hope that the SLY /JACKIE CHAN / “Rambo IV” item never comes to reality!
