Rambo by Esteban Salinas

Esteban Salinas has worked in 3D modeling software, but now mainly works as a freelance illustrator.  I first saw Esteban on Whatnot where he runs commission auctions and then livestreams himself creating the requested art.  It’s always a blast to watch and I decided to join in.  The result is this 15 minute painting of Sly Stallone as Rambo.  The scan doesn’t do the art justice.

If you’d like to see more of Esteban’s art, you can at his website or  at Whatnot.com where he uses the screenname deviant_apple.

Marco Finnegan Gets Carter

That’s Marco Finnegan’s take on Sly as Jack Carter! When the opportunity came to get a sketch from Marco I jumped on it. Marco knows what to put in and more importantly what to leave out.  His art style reminds me of Alex Toth and Darwyn Cooke.

I first became aware of Marco’s art when he teamed with Ace Atkins on two Nick Travers graphic novels: Last Fair Deal Gone Down and Crossroad Blues.

I was already reading Ace Atkins novels, so I decided to seek out more of Marco’s art.  If you’re so inclined you can as well on his website or his Twitter.  Marco is currently the artist on 007, Dynamite Comics new James Bond comics.

Amazing Rocky Painting by Brian Stelfreeze!

Brian Stelfreeze created this amazing painting of Sly Stallone as Rocky.  I was hoping to make it on Brian’s commission list at the Heroes Giant-Size MiniCon.  Not only was I lucky enough to make the list, but Brian was into the idea of creating some Rocky art.  He surpassed all of my expectations (which were high since it was Brian Stelfreeze doing the art).

For those just learning about Brian Stelfreeze, he is one of the most amazing artists working today. He can do it all… pencil, ink, color, design. I have never seen a bad piece by Brian. Yet, he is one of the most humble, approachable and appreciative artists you’ll ever meet. This is my third piece by Mr. Stelfreeze. [You can see my first here and my second here.]

Jack Carter and John Wick by Tom Richmond!

Tom Richmond of MAD magazine fame opened up his commission list and I jumped on with a request for Jack Carter (Sly Stallone) and John Wick (Keanu Reeves).  As you can see Mr. Richmond came through with a winner, which is no surprise.

This is my second commission from Tom Richmond, the first was a Rocky (Stallone) and Clubber Lang (Mr. T.).  I’ll post it once I get it scanned.  It is larger than my current scanner and a photo doesn’t do it justice.

If you’re a sketch collector, I highly recommend Tom Richmond.  He does great art, has wonderful communication and packages the art securely.

Jack Carter / John Wick by John Beatty!

How cool is this Jack Carter / John Wick piece that my buddy, John Beatty drew for me?

John has created several Stallone pieces for me over the years, but this one is perhaps the most creative.  Using the Jack of Spades… with each J standing for Jack (Carter) and John (Wick)… the spades suit symbolizing death… the Carter and Wick figures mirror images of the other.  The drawing can work from any position – Carter or Wick on top or viewed from the horizontal angle that I’ve used (and prefer).  I also have to give John Beatty props for the research he did to make sure both Carter and Wick have their preferred guns.

You can see a bigger version of the art by clicking on the image above.  You can also find John at his Twitter, his website or even his Facebook page.

Mike Lynch Gets Carter!

Check out Sly Stallone as Jack Carter by Mike W. Lynch!  This was Mike’s first time drawing Sly and he nailed the likeness.

Mike Lynch had a contest for a free drawing and my buddy, Ron Wendt aka
Darth_Rawn won.  Instead of getting a piece for himself, he asked for the Stallone piece above to gift to me!  Ain’t friends great?

You can see more of Mike’s art using the two links above (Instagram and Twitter).   Thanks to Mike and Ron for a sweet addition to my Stallone art collection.
