Dave Wachter returns with his take on Sly from the Lords of Flastbush. I met Dave a few years ago and became an instant fan. I wasn’t the only one to discover Dave’s fantastic sketches! How can you not like a great guy who is a terrific artist?
At HeroesCon this year I asked Dave to do Sly from his first major movie, the Lords of Flatbush and another piece of Sly from his latest film, Bullet to the Head. Next week, you’ll see Dave’s take on Sly as Jimmy Bobo.

This week we have Sly and Richard Gere taken when both we working on Lords of Flatbush as our POW [Picture of the Week]. Sly and Gere had a falling out and Gere was let go before filming got underway. Click on the photo to see a fullsize photo. – Craig
The extremely talented, extremely nice, Gene Gonzales created his take on Sly from “The Lords of Flatbush” at the recent FX show. Big John Beatty had requested that he have a table near Gene and it was a great move. Gene is funny, knowledgeable and really nice. [Did you hear that somewhere before?]
Although many artists said the FX show wasn’t as busy as they’d hoped, Gene was constantly signing autographs and sketching for fans. At one point Gene even surprised me by singing the promotional song for “Lords of Flatbush.” That sealed the deal — I asked him if he would draw Sly as Stanley and Gene came through with flying colors.

Chris Lopez is a very talented artist who runs SpaceBop.com. BigBeatty and I were enjoying his intro toon and artwork… and we got to talking about how cool it would be if Chris did some Sly art for the STALLONEZONE.
One day later the piece above and the explanation below appeared in my e-mail:
“The Lords of Flatbush is one of my favorite flicks. It’s up there with The Wanderers. So I figured I’d do one of Stanley. I loved the scene with him in the pigeon coop, or when he goes to buy the engagement ring and gets pressured into buying the more expensive one. Oh yeah, swinging around 2 football helmets!!! Classic stuff.
So anyway, here it is. I hope you like it. I really had fun doing it. I tried not to fall back on the stereotypical Sly caricature features (eyes, lip) and give him a more realistic approach.”
