Sly’s Trust Fund for his Half-Sister

The news broke this week that Sly had been paying his half-sister, Toni-Ann Filiti,  through a trust fund set up to cover living and medical expenses.  The trust was set up years ago after Ms. Filiti asserted claims for personal injury caused by Sly.  Although Sly ‘vigorously denied and continues to deny and dispute all claims of wrongdoing,’ he was advised by his attorneys that it would be better to pay her than risk scandal.

Despite Miss Filiti’s allegations, she remained on good terms with Sly.  She would sometimes come to his movie premieres and Sly even helped her son Edd get a role in Cop Land.  There are reports that Miss Filiti had personal problems through the course of her life.  She died last year from lung cancer.

Kyle Holtz Really Gets Carter

When I learned that Kyle Holtz was taking on some mail order commissions, I just knew I had to try and get on his list.  I was able to and Kyle agreed to give me his take on Sly as Jack Carter.

This is the piece Kyle created.  I think Kyle did an amazing job.  I love everything about this piece.  Unfortunately, it was lost in the mail.  I have hope that it will eventually turn up.  Thankfully, Kyle sent a scan before mailing the art.  When Kyle learned that the piece never arrived, he agreed to redo it.

Knowing how much artists hate to redraw something, and because I thought Kyle totally nailed this piece, I asked if I could upgrade to a larger piece.  Kyle agreed.  So Kyle is going to create a new Jack Carter drawing.  My hope is that this piece will eventually turn up.

Stallone vs Schwarzenegger

On January 17, 2013, Yahoo! Movies posted Stallone vs Schwarzenegger: Did the Action Icons Bet on Whose Film will be Bigger?  Here are a few quotes…

Are there, or has there ever been, two bigger action stars than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone?  No… and no. And the odds are good there never will be.

As members of the same “Expendables” team, the reigning kings of kicking butt may seem all buddy-buddy now, but it hasn’t always been that way. There’s a competitive streak that’s been brewing between them ever since Sly first met Arnold at the 1977 Golden Globes Awards, when as Stallone recounts, the “two piano movers” were seated at the same table…  Schwarzenegger received the Globe for Best Acting Debut in “Stay Hungry,” while Stallone’s breakout film “Rocky” was named Best Picture – Drama.

…after all these years, the two are separated by relatively little, in terms of individual lifetime box office gross, with Schwarzenegger’s movies totaling just over $1.7 billion, while Stallone’s have grossed just over $1.8 billion.

Jason Momoa Praises “Legend” Sylvester Stallone

On January 17, 2013, Digital Spy posted Jason Momoa Praises “Legend” Sylvester Stallone: ‘I Got to Fight Rocky’.  Here’s a quote…

“It was just amazing and I mean Stallone is just a legend. It was a dream to work with him and my fight scenes with Stallone, it was like you just stop and pinch yourself and say, ‘I can’t believe I’m fighting Rocky right now’…

Jason Statham Talks Expendable 3, Homefront & More

On January 15, 2013, Collider posted an update with Jason Statham.  In it Statham talked about Homefront [written by Sly], Expendables 3 and more.  Here are some tidbits…

Homefront is a film that Sylvester Stallone wrote for himself actually.  So, to have a screenplay presented to me by him that he was intending to star in himself was a career point for me.  I said, “Wow!”  He’s a great writer and it’s a really, really cool story.  It’s based on a book written by Chuck Logan called Homefront.  He adapted it to suit me.  It was like a tailor-made suit and Sly did all the sewing.  Fantastic!

Did Sly talk to you at all about Expendables 3 and casting?  Statham:  No.  I saw him on stage at the Golden Globes and he gave me the look.  He went “Whoo!”  He hasn’t said anything but I hear rumors.  I should never go with rumors because they’re often not correct, but I hear Jackie Chan might be coming to the party and that would make me very happy because I do like Jackie Chan.

The Franchize is Expendable

Jerry Gaylord aka The Franchize makes his first, but not his last appearance in my Stallone Sketch Gallery with his take on Sly as Barney Ross from The Expendables.

I highly recommend Jerry to all sketch collectors.  He quickly responds to e-mails, his turnaround time is quick and he packages the art to ensure it arrives safely.
