ShadeStation recently posted a piece saying that U-Boat watches were now available. Posted along with the article was a smaller version of the photo of Sly above.

Dustin Schoof for LeighValley.com posted his list of Favorite On-Screen Tough Guys. The list included: Sly, Bruce Willis, Mr. T, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Roddy Pipper, Clint Eastwood and Samuel L. Jackson. Here’s what he had to say about Sly:
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone): “Rocky,” “Rocky II,” “Rocky III,” “Rocky IV,” “Rocky V,” “Rocky Balboa”
Rocky was and still is the perennial people’s champion. With the help of his trainer Mick (Burgess Meredith), former adversary Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) and the obligatory ’80s training montage, the “Italian Stallion” from South Philly beat the odds, brain damage, old age and even communism.Along the way he encountered two of the meanest men to appear on screen: the vicious Clubber Lang (Mr. T) and the cold-blooded Soviet killer, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Yo Adrian, he did it!

Richard Pierce, repeatedly watched the trailer for The Expendables and came to the conclusion that…
… beneath its awesomeness lied something deeper – closer to genius… After studying the trailer as closely as I have, I’m convinced there’s no way “The Expendables” could be anything less than the greatest movie ever.

Mark your calendars and set your DVRs, SZoners fans. Sylvester Stallone will make a rare guest appearance on television. Sly is set to show up on The Wizards of Waverly Place in an episode titled “The Good, The Bad and the Alex” which premieres Friday, May 7 @ 8PM ET/PT on the Disney Channel.

On April 13, 2010, Moviefone posted a piece by Sharon Knolle titled Iron Man 2 Inspired by Rocky III? Ms. Knolle’s contention:
When you’re making a sequel to a killer action movie, you can’t help but borrow from some of the great franchises that came before — and we think we know where ‘Iron Man’ got some of its inspiration: One Rocky Balboa.
She then goes on to present a trailer for Rocky III and a trailer for Iron Man 2 and then follows with a summary of the similarities. You can check out the full piece here.

Jon Riggle is back, this time with his take on Sly from Demolition Man having a bit o’ rat. Jon is an illustrator and photographer. He also created the Sci-Fi comic strip Sonic Jack and is available for commissions. You can see more of Jon’s art here and here.
Thanks to Jon and John Beatty for the gift.

On April 9, 2010, The Spoiler posted a piece called 10 Rather Famous Football Supporters [celebrities with ties to soccer]. The article leads with the picture of Sly above. You can read it here if you’d like, but be advised it’s supposed to be humorous. I’ll let you decide if it is.

On April 7, 2010, FilmSchoolRejects.com selected Rocky Balboa for their Movies We Love column. Here’s a taste:
Of all the sequels in one of cinema’s most popular franchises this one feels most authentic and honest to the original, or at least the most connected since the third film. Not to diminish the entertainment value of the other installments (even the fifth…to a degree), Rocky Balboa is just more of a return to the emotional struggles of the character.

I picked up this piece by Jeff Parker at MegaCon 2009. Jeff and Casey Jones were sketching for the Hero Initiative. Jeff decided to go with Sly as Deke DaSilva from Nighthawks… after all…
“It was a Nighthawks kind of day.”
This is my second Stallone by Jeff Parker. You can see the first here. You can also see more of Jeff’s talents at his site.

Stefano Rondinella is an artist and Sylvester Stallone fan from Sicily. Stefano sent in this picture of himself holding a painting of Sly as Rambo that he created. Thanks to Stefano for sharing his talents with us.
