Empire: Sly Says Rambo No More

According to a May 1, 2010, post from Empire, Sly told one of their interviewers…

“… I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure… I’m very happy with the last Burmese episode, because I didn’t pull any punches on it… I wanted it to be what civil war really is – rough. You can’t candy coat it, and where do you go from there?

The Empire article goes on to say that Sly is working on a director’s cut of Rambo!  You can read the full piece here.

Of course once the news hit that Sly might not return to Rambo, other sites followed up…

AMC: Top 5 Sly Stallone Movies

On April 30, 2010, the AMC Movie Blog posted their choices for The Five Best Movies of Sylvester Stallone.  Here are their choices and a little of the rationale for selection:

5.  Demolition Man: …Nothing about this movie should work — dated jokes about Taco Bell, a ridiculous time-travel setup — but it work it does, from start to finish. Credit Stallone’s amusing fish-out-of-water performance…

4. Cliffhanger: …Die Hard on a mountain, Cliffhanger is as cool as it sounds… Stallone reminds us why he’s one of the best action stars ever. He radiates intensity.

3. Copland: …Stallone turned his career around with this serious (and underappreciated) drama…

2. Rambo: No. We’re not talking about the original — that’s First Blood. We’re not even talking about Rambo: First Blood II, the sequel. While we love those both, this bare-bones, bloody action film ranks as one of the best flicks in years..

1. Rocky: Not just Stallone’s best but also one of Hollywood’s best…

Sly & Paula Abdul

On April 29, 2010, The Las Vegas Sun posted a nice article by Robin Leach about Sly and Paula Abdul in attendance at the celebration of Planet Hollywood into the Harrah’s “family”.  There are several nice photos of Sly with Paula and others.  Here are a couple of quotes from the piece:

… Sly said he’s thrilled with the results. “I’m doing the editing right now, and it’s going great. Everybody who sees just clips of it say it’s going to be the biggest action film of all time. Our bodies took a brutal beating. It was bloody, hand-to-hand combat, and you can see that onscreen…

…You couldn’t have dreamed up a better cast of action heroes, and I’m genuinely happy how we got them all to take part and even risk their lives and bodies for this project. There was incredible chemistry on the set between all of us, which was fantastic because it was a tough grind shooting all that action week after week for three solid months.”
