On April 2, 2010, ESPN’s Page 2, in anticipation of the Tiger Woods’ comeback to golf, posted their choices for the 50 Most Anticipated Comebacks.  Coming in at #36 Rocky Balboa.

Many thought the 2006 installment of the Sylvester Stallone franchise would only exacerbate the awful taste left by “Rocky V.” Instead, it brought closure to the greatest sports movie franchise, with the title character doing what he does best — take a beating, sure, but lose standing up.

On April 2, 2010, The Sun posted a piece titled Sly Takes Mickey for the Comeback.  According to the article, Sly and Mickey Rourke are planning to team up for a comedy.  An unnamed source says it’s…

“…about two old washed-up action heroes and how they handle retirement… Clearly there’s an in-joke there and Mickey is very interested in working with Sly again…”

On March 30, 2010, Digital Spy posted a piece about The Expendables comic series coming from Dynamite Entertainment.  Chuck Dixon, who is adapting Sly’s Expendables screenplay had this to say:

I think (I hope) I captured Stallone’s vibe. His dialogue here is very distinctive and there’s a kind of shorthand between these characters who know each other so well. Trying to capture that has been the toughest part. But it’s also liberating in a way because I’m free to use his language as a guide for improvisation.”

“Lots of violence committed by guys who, while not morally ambivalent, they are certainly morally expedient. The restraints are off a bit more here. The action more bloody. The settings more realistic.”

Piers Morgan, in a column for dailymail.co.uk, talks about when he and Simon Cowell were having dinner in LA and bumped in to Sly:

Enjoyed another fun night at Soho House – now officially THE coolest place to be in LA – where I bumped into Sylvester Stallone and Simon Cowell.

The former was wearing very large sunglasses.

‘Sly, great to see you,’ I said. ‘Isn’t it a bit dark for those?’

‘Yes, absolutely, but I’ve got a sty on my eye.’

He slowly pulled down the shades to reveal a whopping great big, inflamed bump.

‘In fact, I’m thinking of changing my name to Sty Stallone.’

‘Fancy doing my chat show?’ I asked.

‘Of course,’ he replied. ‘You’re the best.’

Cowell nearly choked on his beer.

‘No, he’s not.’

‘He is.’

‘He’s not. He’s the worst.’

‘He is?’ Sly turned back to me.

‘Sorry, I made a terrible mistake. Apparently you’re the worst.’

Cowell giggled loudly. Little things really do please little minds.
