SLY IN TOTAL FILM

Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes sent in the pics and quotes from TOTAL FILM (August 2001/issue 55)

  • “Ask him which movies he rates from the past, and he’ll list  First BloodNighthawksF.I.S.T. and Cop Land. Ask about the choices he’s likely to make in the future, and he’ll stress that he’s looking for more ensemble pieces, more character work. “
  • “There’s a kind of thrill at seeing something that came off the page being enacted before your very eyes as opposed to just being an actor for hire.”
  • “Next up he’s acting opposite Madeline Stowe as a mafia bodyguard wanting payback for his boss’ murder in Avenging Angelo, before carrying on down the revenge trail as a widower out for justice in Dolan’s Cadillac.”
  • “In fact neither the remake of Get Carter nor cop thriller Eye See You (aka Detox) look likely to get theatrical release over here (UK ).”
  • “His career did perk up momentarily , however, when racing movie Driven thrust him onto the winners podium as it took the number one spot at the US box office in April.”

Sly Makes an Impact

Paul Corr sent in the pic above and the following:

Just a note to let you know that STALLONE is in the Impact mag again. Impact UK issue 117 They have a website www.maipublications.co.uk

Two pages on the SLY Guy – Titled “Driven to Distraction”SYLVESTER STALLONE is back in front of the Camera and behind the wheel of this racing cert”

“After a long delay, SYLVESTER STALLONE‘s Driven finally makes it to British cinemas in October. Impact takes a look at the latest movie to rev its engines.

“If dinosaurs don’t tickle your fancy this Summer, this film might well prove a fast paced alternative.”

It’s great news to finally know a SLY picture is showing soon in Ireland, I can’t wait.

P.S. Just a note to let you know that I got one of the Rambo First Blood II figures [on EbaY] and it is as good, if not better than you reported. I also fought to the last minutes and won a ROCKY matchbox car collectible, aren’t they a touch of class. If it wasn’t for the StalloneZone, I would never have known about the items. Thanks for the Zone.

Paul Corr [Belfast, Ireland]

And thanks to Paul for sharing!

PS – I agree with you on both the Rambo action figure and the Rocky matchbox car (really partial to it!)

“Lords of Flatbush Stallone” by Chris Lopez

Chris Lopez is a very talented artist who runs SpaceBop.com. BigBeatty and I were enjoying his intro toon and artwork… and we got to talking about how cool it would be if Chris did some Sly art for the STALLONEZONE.

One day later the piece above and the explanation below appeared in my e-mail:

The Lords of Flatbush is one of my favorite flicks. It’s up there with The Wanderers. So I figured I’d do one of Stanley. I loved the scene with him in the pigeon coop, or when he goes to buy the engagement ring and gets pressured into buying the more expensive one. Oh yeah, swinging around 2 football helmets!!! Classic stuff.
So anyway, here it is. I hope you like it. I really had fun doing it. I tried not to fall back on the stereotypical Sly caricature features (eyes, lip) and give him a more realistic approach.”

Ya gotta love it!

Check out Chris’ work at Spacebop, and be sure to tell him we sent ya! Special thanks to BigBeatty for the set-up and Chris for the slam-dunk! (Craig Zablo September 3, 2001)

3 STALLONE ITEMS & STALLONEZONE RECOGITION!

Here are four interesting Sly tidbits:

1. In the September 10, 2001 issue of US Weekly, Sly is mentioned in Michael Lewittes “The Scene” column: Sylvester Stallone, in an olive-green suit, chomping on a cigar and eating dinner with 15 Minutes writer-director John Herzfeld in the back of Elaine’s in New York.

2. SylvesterStallone.com updated last week with three voice messages from the man himself. Sly talks about the possibility of Rocky 6, Rocky on Broadway, several tv series that he is developing (but not going to star in, plus Avenging Angelo, Dolan’s Cadillac, and more!

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS posted a news item (written by SZ regular Andrew aka ABKing) about the update as well.

3. On Tuesday, Dark Horizons posted information from a Q & A session with director Paul Anderson. Sly fans will be excited to hear that Anderson’s next project is “Death Race 3000” and that Anderson is confident that Tom Cruise will play the lead character and Anderson “mentioned that he wanted Sylvester Stallone to return and play the same role that he played in the original.”

4. TV Today (a German magazine) recently ran piece on Celebrity Websites. We are proud to say that the Sylvester Stallone site that they chose to profile was Craig Zablo’s StalloneZone! That’s right, SZoners, we were recognized in Germany! Thanks to Lot Of Sly for giving us the heads-up on the article. I would also like to thank John Beatty, Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes, and Rob “rOb” deVera – the best non-paid staff anywhere. I would also like to thank all of the SZoners who support our efforts… and of course Mr. Sylvester Stallone. (The article is reprinted above — if anyone could translate it, it would be greatly appreciated!)
