Sin City: The Making of the Movie
Friday, April 15, 2005 11:38 PM

Last night I spent a few hours in Sin City... and no, I didn't go see the movie again, or re-read any of the stories.

What I did do, is immerse myself in Frank Miller's Sin City: The Making of the Movie book.

And what a beautiful book it is! You can tell that this baby was a labor of love. Slightly oversized and stuffed with everything that a fan would want.

Don't believe me? Ok, here's a partial listing of what you'll find between the covers: scripts for each Sin City segment, behind the scenes photos, design art and photos, actors discussing their take on the characters that they played and other aspects of the film, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's thoughts about the actors, filming, etc., scenes that have been deleted from the theatrical release but will be on the dvd, posters [some never scene before], and much, much more.

Frank Miller's Sin City: The Making of the Movie retails for thirty bucks and for my money, it's a bargain. Order it through Amazon by clickig HERE and you can get it for less than twenty. That's not a bargain, that's a steal!

Which is kind of what you'd expect in Sin City.

Never Say Never - Body Bags is Back!
Thursday, April 14, 2005 5:40 PM

Never say never.

Sean Connery once said he'd never play James Bond again. Years later he starred as Bond in, you guessed it, "Never say Never."

Frank Miller used to say that he'd never allow Sin City to be turned into a movie. We all know how that played out.

Jason Pearson fans have been asking if we'd ever see more Body Bags work from him. Some fans said we'd never see more.

Guess what? Body Bags is back! Newsarama posted THIS and you can go to 12 Guage Comics for even more info.

American Idol - Season of Surprise
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 7:21 PM
This season American Idol has been full of surprises.

The biggest and best so far has been that Steve Savol is still in the competition.

Don't get me wrong, I think the guy can sing. But the show is called American IDOL, and well, Scott just doesn't look like your typical idol. That coupled with the fact that he called himself "the real rocker in the competition" [a dig at Constantine and Bo] and then went on to take a shot at the voters when he said, "and there's, like, millions of people at home who didn't have the nerve to do this" probably didn't endear him to those casting ballots.

Another surprise has been the judges dislike of Nadia's performances the last few weeks. I think she should have a real shot of winning it all, yet voters have put her in the bottom three more than once. And last night Randy, SImon and even Paula were down on her performance.

Vonzell Solomon has been a pleasant surprise. She is without a doubt the most improved performer. She picks great songs and pulls them off. At this point I believe that Vonzell is Carrie Underwood's main competition. Unless, of course, Bo or Constatine's fan base is bigger than I think it is.

So, who do I believe will be voted off tonight? If it were up to me Anthony Fedorov would be packing. But it's not and so my guess is Scott will have to say farewell.

Of course I could be wrong,,, and that shouldn't come as a surprise.

Sin City Looks Like Sin City
Tuesday, April 12, 2005 6:16 PM

A lot has been made of how CLOSELY Sin CIty the movie follows Sin City the comic.

I love the fact that Robert Rodriguez "translated" [not adapted] the comics to the big screen. The first trailers spliced in comic panels to show how closely the movie was to the comics. Still you might be more than a little surprised at how closely the panels match up to the scenes once you look HERE.

The Walking Dead... Lives
Monday, April 11, 2005 8:24 PM

In December of 2003, I wrote my initial post about the ultra cool Walking Dead comic. The first issue had just been released. It was obvious that Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore had created a winner.

The book just kept getting better and better. It quickly became my favorite monthly comic.

Then a scary thing happened. Tony Moore left and Charlie Adlard took over the art chores. The Walking Dead didn't miss a beat.

But how long can it last?

50 Eggs, Beatty and a Bet
Sunday, April 10, 2005 7:22 PM

If you've ever seen the movie Cool Hand Luke [and even if you haven't], you're probably familiar with the scene where Luke eats fifty hardboiled eggs in one hour to win a bet.

For whatever reason, about a week ago, John Beatty, John Higashi and I began to discuss whether or not a person could actually do it.

We all agreed that it'd be difficult if not impossible. And that's when Beatty claimed, "I could eat 50 scrambled eggs in an hour -- no sweat." My ears perked up. This was the moment I was waiting for and I jumped in, "So you're saying that you could eat fifty scrambled eggs in one hour without throwing up?"

"Yeah. Easy," came the answer. Beatty must have seen the look on my face and where this was heading because he added, "I'm not talking about extra large or jumbo eggs... just regular eggs."

I smiled and asked, "Couid you eat fifty regular hardboiled eggs in one hour?"

"No, but I could eat fifty scrambled easily," was Beatty's reply. At this point John Higashi jumped in with, "Scrambled eggs would be easier. I think he could do it."

And there it sat for the rest of the day. Over the course of the week Beatty and I have skirted around the idea of him eating fifty scrambled eggs in an hour as a bet, but neither of us threw down the gauntlet. I do know that Big John can eat a five egg omelet with toast, milk and grits or taters... so fifty scrambled may be within his reach.

I decided to do some research and found this site that scientifically explores the possibility of a human eating fifty hardboiled eggs in an hour. Of course this doesn't match up completely with our situation since: 1] Beatty's talking about eating scrambled eggs and 2] Beatty ain't quite human.

Still the site concludes that if he did try he would "be bunged up for 36 hours after eating his eggs, and the amount of hydrogen sulphide gas (stink gas) he would produce would be awful." The site also says that a man ate 32 softboiled eggs in 78 seconds.

That settles it for me. If a normal guy can eat 32 softboiled eggs in just over a minute and the biggest problem eating fifty eggs will cause is a terrible gas [and with Big John, how could it get any worse??]...

...I have to say this is one bet I will now avoid!
