Can’t Teach a Dog New Tricks [or Treats!]

Happy Halloween to all Sylvester Stallone / Rocky fanatics around the world! We found one more picture of Rocky [SYLVESTER STALLONE] and his pal Punchy. We thought that it would make a sweet Halloween treat [and it won’t rot your teeth]!

As an added bonus for SYLVESTER STALLONE / ROCKY fans, here’s Sly’s response to another question sent in by STALLONEZONErs!

Craig: Sly, fans would love for you to do commentary tracks if and when your movies are re-released on DVD. Are you up for that? Is this something you enjoy?

SYLVESTER STALLONE: I do enjoy it. You sit down and you just have a glass of wine and you start to look at something in the cold light of day and it’s good. And I think [if] you find humor in it, the one thing is, you know, you try not, at least I try not to take myself too seriously. But quite often when you’re doing the film you’re like you’re in this deep, you know, morass of moodiness. And you go, you’re not thinking straight but, you know, afterwards you go, “Oh that’s just a movie. Now lets talk about it and have some fun with it, maybe.”

  1. Great question, Craig! I would love to see Sly do commentary on a re-release of all his movies! That would be a great treat for his fans! Great picture, too. This movie is gonna rock! Can’t wait!

  2. Rambo IV: In The Serpent’s Eye will begin shooting early next year in Thailand, Bangkok and Chaing Mai! Sly this is incredible not only a new ROCKY film but a new RAMBO already in the works! AWESOME this is just amazing!:) Luv ya Sly:) Peace – Aron Scott

  3. OK, I have to say it. To the dude telling everything he saw in a screening, you’re a cocksucker. First off, I don’t believe you and I hope the rest out there doesn’t either. But for the ones that do believe you, you could make these people not even want to see the movie with your stupid ass comments. So keep them to yourself, moron.

  4. Optimum friend of the Rocky. Now they lack less than 50 days for the return of the champion. Edmundo, a super fan of Brazil!

  5. Butkus…that is why I purposefully did not read his comment. I could tell at the beginning of it that he was about to give information that I do not want to hear, so I scrolled on down. I want to experience this movie in the theater and I am sick and tired of people getting on this blog and telling what happens.

  6. YES!, I totally agree with y’all! I absoloutely HATE, DESPISE, LOATHE SPOILERS!!!! It is a major pain in the ass when people(How ever they managed to get into a screening of this movie 8 weeks early I will never know!) give everything about the story away when the (rest of the world) hasn’t seen the film yet! If you people come on here and give all the information about the movie away, why the hell would we even bother seeing it!??? I want to experience this movie first hand and view it for the first time with out knowing anymore about the story than I already do! So PLEASE don’t come on here and tell us every single thing about this movie, It RUINS it for us!!! Keep your thoughts and information to yourself!! Peace – Aron Scott

  7. Craig-

Ask Sly when Poe will go into Production. He should ask Daniel Day Lewis to play the role.

  10. Some of the best advertising is work of mouth and what I’ve seen so far is great. I still can not believe the shape Sly is in. Well done.

  11. Finally there!
    Can´t wait for this movie.
    But where are the ads?

The Trailer from the Rocky.com page is very poor. Common this is Rocky!
You have to do something now!

    Go on, knock him out!

  14. Okay, they just had one of the first screenings of ROCKY BALBOA here in Orlando at Downtown Disney and I was lucky enough to score seats. There will be some general content spoilers, but I’m not going to get into any specifics. Hopefully some or all of this gets printed…

Let’s just get one thing out of the way first: It’s REALLY good. This is the Rocky we’ve come to know and love, the Rocky that went the distance with Apollo Creed (as opposed to the Rocky that street fought Tommy Gunn…).

It’s not a lot of boxing or training really. There’s a lot of character scenes here. Which is not to say it’s aimless, there’s simply not a lot of “action” for a long time, and the movie manages to build character and excitement for the main event. Meanwhile,Stallone manages to talk about some big stuff (namely man’s will versus the chaos of nature) without getting too cheesy. People will want to call it cheesy, but think about it. How many movies in recent years have truly had a heroic figure?

We need this movie…you see, they don’t really make movies like this anymore, at least none that are any good. This is more than just a great Rocky movie; this is an ode to man, a celebration of the heroic ideal, a testament to the strength of our volition, a view of man as he might and ought to be. Here, we have in Rocky someone who does what’s right and follows his calling based on his beliefs and will, d**n the people who would disillusion him. (Echoing the real life story of the people who would mock Stallone for attempting a comeback)

As for style, Stallone shoots the movie in a way they don’t really make movies anywhere, and it’s a welcome change of pace. He utilizes a lot of gentle cuts and cross fades, and amidst some really great photography, especially the grainy night shots. People forget that Stallone can be a really good director.

Acting-wise, I wish Stallone didn’t get so much crap. He’s really a lot better than people give him credit for. Go back and re-watch the original Rambo, or even the original Rocky. He’s instantly watchable and fills his characters with great idiosyncrasies in subtle ways that feel natural. Here, he gives one of his best performances and one of the best of the year. He totally inhabits this character, every single moment, the way his sentences kinda trail off at the end, his inherent sense of self and goodness, that look he gets in his eyes when he’s hurt or has to dig really deep…

Oh, and allow me to quell what was one of my biggest fears going into the movie: Rocky is supposed to fight Mason Dixon based on the outcome of a videogame? I know that sounds like a terrible idea on paper, but it’s not QUITE the entire truth. As the simulation is presented in the movie it actually comes off as something you might see on ESPN. It’s actually really good and fits in with the reality of this alternate sports universe, where Rocky actually exists and is one of the all-time greats. In fact that’s what was so surprising…this is a universe Stallone has created. Here, Rocky is a living legend. Everyone recognizes him walking around town, his restaurant is a local favorite, he’s one of those disarming celebrities that’s actually as nice in “real life” as one might hope him to be. Everyone loves Rocky. Yet at the same time, everyone is well aware that Rocky has no chance in hell of winning. But that’s the position Rocky’s always in, isn’t it?

The movie is not perfect. There’s this scene set to a terrible adult contemporary song in the beginning and then this terrible moment in the bar, both near the beginning of the movie, that are obviously terrible and dripping in cheese. Luckily, other than that, the movie soars. It’s my favorite movie of the year. Not perfect but my favorite.

Because on top of everything I loved about it as an individual movie, at the end of the day, it’s a new Rocky movie and it’s GOOD. When the training music cues, if you’re a movie fan, you’ll have no choice but to clap and cheer at the sheer culmination of this moment. A moment that could not exist UNLESS there were 5 other movies preceding it. Same for the incredible match between Rocky and Mason, which is not only great in itself, but also has the weight of 6 movies. Rocky is BETTER because it’s a sequel, but it’s also a great movie in and of itself.

I’m so happy to have seen this.

And before anyone says plant…which is unfortunately inevitable…I will say this, I have a BNAT application in and if selected I’ll see you at the Alamo Drafthouse and convince you in person that this is one of the year’s best.

  15. when are the new trailers coming and how about a thousand tv spots and advertisements? Did already ask when is the new trailer and tv spots coming? WHEN? WHEN? WHEN? WHEN? WHEN? WHEN are the NEW TRAILERS and TV SPOTS coming? we need to see some new trailers and tv spots!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. hey where is all of the advertisements for this movie… How about a new trailer and some tv commercials?

  17. I’m with everyone else on this, I want to see trailers on tv. There are movies that are being avertised 2 months before the movie comes out. We need to see that, i’ve never actually seen any Rocky movie adverstised on tv. I was about 10 when the 5th came out and I don’t remember seeing anything on tv about it. This movie is going to be great and everyone needs to see it.
Also, I was thinking of trying to getting a marathon of all the movies together the night before.I’m sure its too late for that now, but what I wanted to do is maybe start showing 1-5 around 12pm on the 21st and then lead on to the 6th in a actual theater. But getting the rights to do that and trying to rent out a theater in Texas would be a pain in the butt this close to the 6th coming out. Even then I doubt there would be enough people there for it to be worth it, i’d be happy to sit in a huge theater with my parents and watch it. But it would be soooo cool to get all the fans in one room like that and watch all 5 one after the other until the theater opens to the public and the 6th is shown. That would be the coolest thing ever, this is a huge event. We’ve been waiting for this for 16 years…..omg its just a little over a month away 😀 😀 😀
I’ll be waiting outside the theater on the 22nd so I can be the first one in 😀

  18. Sly, you are a true inspiration and I thank you for doing one more Rocky, inspire another generation!

  19. hey…i was thinking the same thing. You know when the last of the Star Wars movies came out, they played all six in the theaters. It would be so awesome if they would re-release the previous 5 Rocky movies that we could watch them back to back in the theater. So many of the fans were too young to see the first 2 AT the movies! And when you get down to it, the movies are so much more moving when you watch them back to back. (If you have never done that…I highly recommend it). What do you say? Re-release all the previous ones????

  20. We just had a Rocky film festival at home…Rocky I and II on VHS.
It was great. I remember how good it was in the theater with a big crowd.

    Make it IMAX!

  21. yesterday, i saw the rocky balboa movie poster in the movie theater i went to last night, it was amazing, it gave me goose bumps looking at it, i asked one of the employees if they had the trailer for it, they said they did, but they had to ship it back…….maybe they are making a new trailer…..i’ve heard rumors of it…..and well yeah, the rocky balboa poster was amazing too see because, i wasn’t old enough too see any rocky movie in theaters….except rocky 5…..and i probabaly wouldnt of remembered it :/ I AM SO PUMPED FOR ROCKY BALBOA

  22. TRAILERS// COMMERCIALS.. WHATS UP WITH THIS I SEE TRAILERS FROM MOVIES COMING OUT WAY AFTER ROCKY BALBOA!!! WHERES THE PUBLICITY FOR OUR MOVIE???

  23. I AM SO BEYOND PISSED OFF AT THIS PONT!!!!!! I WANT NEW TRAILERS AND COMMERCIALS NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU KNOW WHAT, IF I DON’T SEE FIVE NEW TRAILERS, 500 NEW PICTURES, AND 500,000 COMMERCIALS I AM NOT GOING TO EVEN WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!! – Ungrateful Fan

  24. ITS NOT BEING UNGRATEFUL BUT AS FANS THEY ARENT PROMOTNG OUR FAVORITE MOVIE.. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME HYPE FOR IT

  25. We should cherish this film Rocky Balboa because today, we don’t see movies like this anymore, the only closest thing I personally think resembled the Heart of a Champ and the title “The Underdog” was the movie “Rudy.”

  26. Thank you Craig.Great pic like always. 😀

    Like all fans…can’t wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And i want publicity soooooooooon!!!!!

  27. I’ve always loved Rocky and I can’t wait until this one comes out. I think it will be quite good because it can’t get any worse than the last couple!!!

  28. Who really cares about the promotion of the film? I’m sure word of mouth will do just fine. I am in no way a movie buff. I don’t visit movie websites or anything like that. I still found out about this film. I am beyond excited to see it, and i’d much rather see it in a theater with real rocky fans, and not a bunch of frat boys who think they are just as tough as rocky.

  29. straight up there should be more promotion for this film right now! Craig, whats up? can u shed some light on this??

  30. This is like a dream come true for all of us Rocky fans out there that have been hoping for this film to be done, the way that Sly wanted to REALLY do it. This film will go back to the roots, the emotions of the person we so closely identified and cared about. The music, the setting, the run up those stairs. The core-values that Rocky brought out…believe in yourself, and anything is possible. Hope, desire, determination along with the vision.

I know this is a movie, but the story of Rocky, the underdog in life, has imspired millions to beleive in themselves. Nice work Sly. “WIN ROCKY WIN”

  31. sly, welcome back…. its been along time coming, seen the trailors and cant wait to watch the film. Rocky is an inspiration to alot of people, underdogs that are not given much of a fighting chance in life, but sometimes there is always a twist of fate, and im sure rocky inpires many people, myself included. i really imagined Rocky 6 to involve Rocky jnr as a fighter being managed by his dad, and fighting his way through the ranks, but then thats just repeating the same story, this looks great and i can see some funny scenes happening between you and burt young. cheers sly for bringing Rocky back.

  32. This movie is going to be the best fighting movie we have had in a while. I love all the rocky’s, i cant wait until this one comes out. It would have been cool if they would have gotten Mike Tyson to play the bad guy.

  33. You have been such great inspration on my life, every time I go through trouble, and hard time, all I have to do watch one of the rocky, to realize, and get back on track thank you for making such great movie
