Sly Stallone Shape

Hey SZoners, here’s a recent photo of Sly that was sent to me yesterday from a source that wanted to remain anonymous.  That’s an unusual request, so I cleared it with Sly and he was cool with me posting it.  And yes, the photo was taken this week.  Yes, Sly has found the fountain of youth — and it consists of discipline, diet and time in the gym!

LotofSly: Renny Harlin Autograph!

That’s an ultra-rare promotional post card for “Driven” starring Sly Stallone and directed by Renny Harlin.  If you look closer, you’ll see that it’s autographed and personalized to me from Renny Harlin.  How cool is that?

My pal, Alex surprised me with a package containing it and several other Stallone-related autographs that I’m going to post on the SZ over the coming weeks.  Alex, as you’ve probably guessed is also known as LotofSly on the SZ message boards where he also serves as one of our moderators.  Alex has met more celebrities than anyone else I know, and he somehow always manages to get photos with them.  That’s in addition to being an all-around nice guy… and as nice as Alex is THAT has to be a full time job!

Rocky @ Golden Globes

On January 18, 2012, Entertainment and Stars posted a piece titled, “Golden Globes 2012: Top 10 Show-Stealers Over the Years and Interesting Facts About Them.  Here’s what they had to say about “Rocky”

Rocky: “Rocky,” starring Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, arrived in 1976 and won the Golden Globe for Best Drama. The movie depicted the story of a struggling boxer, Balboa, trying to make a living working as a debt collector for a pittance. He gets the chance of his lifetime when heavyweight champion Apollo Creed visits Philadelphia and an exhibition match is held between Creed and Balboa.

Did You Know That  – “Rocky” was shot in just 28 days? Adrian’s last name was Klein in the original script? The photos on Rocky’s mirror are actual photos of Stallone as a young boy? The movie was the first sports film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture?

The Expendables 2: PG13 Rating

The big news this week, and boy, did it create a firestorm of controversy, is that The Expendables 2 is going to be rated PG-13.  The news broke when Chuck Norris was quoted as saying…

  • “In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. Fot this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But i don’t play in movies like this. Due to that i said i won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not ereased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.”

Many fans were outraged, feeling that The Expendables 2 needed the “R” rating.  Others were confident that sequel wouldn’t suffer with a PG13 classification, and in fact might even do better at the box office.

Harry, at AICN, got this response from Sly in regard to the PG13 rating

  • Harry, the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance… Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement,  trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and  delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry…Sly

After getting that response from Sly, Harry  posted

  • You know – if the film is PG13 – and a better film that the last one, I’m alright with it.   It isn’t like the last film was pushing the R-rating.

As for me, the PG13 rating doesn’t concern me in the least.  I want a great action-packed movie and I’m sure that’s what we’re going to get.

Torrance Takes a Trip to Paradise Alley

Mike Torrance aka The Krayola Kidd is back from “Paradise Alley” and he brought Sly as Cosmo Carboni with him!  I think Mike did an excellent job of capturing Sly from one of his most under-rated movies.

You can see more of Mike’s art at The Daily Sketch with The Krayola Kidd and his Deviant Art site. Mike is available for commissions and his prices are very reasonable.

Schwarzenegger May Join Sly in The Tomb

The big news this week is the potential re-teaming of Sly Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger on a movie that Sly became attached to last year.  In The Tomb, Sly is set to play Ray Breslin, a security expert who ends up framed and sent to a high-security prison that he designed.  There’s no word yet on the role that has Arnold’s interest.
