“RAMBO IV” BY CHRIS MURPHY

Chris Murphy (who many will remember as the webmaster of Sly’s Gym) checked in after a long absence. Chris has been working on a variety of things including his artwork, and he created this teaser exclusively for the SZ! (Who now could doubt that Sly could get in shape to play Rambo or Rocky?)

SLY SIGNS FOR FANS

Recently I received an e-mail with the photo above and the message below:

This pic was taken on April 26, 2001 outside the David Letterman show.  Sly stopped before the show to sign autographs for everyone.  All the best,  Christine Eschenauer  (ps the photo is from my personal collection of Sly pics)

Christine
was born and lives in Brooklyn. She’s been a major Sly fan for 20 years now!!  She’s a director of marketing at a law firm. Funny story: each time she’s met Sly, she’s had a Rocky towel with her that he sees – she calls it the lucky towel and thinks she will go down as the “crazy towel girl” to the people at David Letterman!!!  Thanks to Christine for sharing! – Craig Zablo (September 3, 2001)

SLY BY KELSEY SHANNON

Kelsey Shannon is an extremely talented artist and a heck of a nice guy. BigRobo.com is the name of Kelsey’s home on the web. There you’ll discover that he’s worked in animation design, comics, film, and can eat a whole package of cheese in under an hour! You’ll also see Kelsey’s Gallery of very impressive art!

Thanks to Kelsey for the killer portrait and to BigBeatty for setting it up! – Craig Zablo (August 19, 2001)

Sly & Arnold by Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes

Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes has been toying with the idea of a painting of Sly and Arnold for a while. In the midst of all that he’s been doing (his regular 9 to 5, helping score a friend’s film, working on his own independent short, etc.) inspiration struck! Jazz has this to say about the work-in-progress:

Here is a sketch version of what might be one of the candidates for a Sly/Arnie painting. I’m sooo indecisive it’s insane.

With this piece I was trying for something expressive with some humor and a touch of YELLOW SUBMARINE influence added in ( hand with blade ). I’ve never consciously tried to conjure up influences but what the hey. It was sort of fun.

I wish this could be done before “GET CARTER” comes out but it won’t happen with my schedule. I am getting better with scheduling my time though. Maybe I can do a Sly face study painting soon.

BTW pretty soon I’ll be filming some exteriors for “BLACK CAPRICORN DAY” this fall. I’ll be strapping myself to the top of a UHAUL to film a high tracking shot of swurving car. So if I’m not on the SZ messageboard for awhile that’s because I’m in a body cast (lol) .

Peace , JAZZMAN
