“Rocky” Rated Top Film Franchise

On June 22, 2010, We Are Movie Geeks.com posted their selections for the Top Ten Film Franchises.  Back to the Future; Planet of the Apes; Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter; Rocky; Alien(s); Lord of the Rings; James Bond; The Godfather and Star Wars all made the list. Here’s some of what they had to say about the Rocky series:

…you cannot dismiss the genius of the character of Rocky Balboa.

Rocky was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Screenplay that Stallone wrote, and won 3, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Rocky stole the heart of America and reminded us why we should always root for the underdog.

Moreno Imagines “Tango & Cash 2”

Recently SZoner, Gerardo Moreno contacted us about Tango and Cash going to Blu-Ray.  At the time there were rumors floating about that Sly and Kurt Russell were interested in doing a sequel.  Although those are just rumors, Gerardo decided to put his talents to work and came up with his version of how the sequel movie poster could look.

“Demolition Man” One of the Best

On June 17, 2010, Den of Geek posted their list of The 12 Best Pure Hollywood Action Films of the 1990s.  Making the list were Executive Decision, The Mask of Zorro, Mission: Impossible, Speed, Goldeneye, The Rock, The Last Boy Scout, The Matrix, Starship Troopers, Terminator: Judgment Day, Con Air and Demolition Man (which came in 5th).

Here’s some of what was said about Demolition Man:

Demolition Man is an absolute riot. It has a whale of a time with its script, as Stallone plays the brawny old fashioned cop failing to grasp futuristic technologies (there’s perhaps an Expendables parallel there)

The dialogue here is golden, and Demolition Man isn’t just a fine action film (you’ve got to love it when Wesley Snipes gets hold of futuristic weaponry), but a cherishable comedy too.

EW Reviews “Death Race 2000” Blu-Ray

On June 18, 2010, Entertainment Weekly ran a review of Death Race 2000 that featured a smaller version of the photo above of Sly in his role as Machinegun Joe Viterbo.  Overall Death Race 2000 was given a B- rating. Here are some of the comments about it…

June is “Cobra” Month

Nick Martinolich and the fine folks over a Media Potluck have declared June to be Cobra month!  They’ve created a podcast, are filming a fan made version of Cobra, are having a double feature night [Cobra and Cop Land] and are even going to post an interview with me.

They are asking all Stallone and Cobra fans to get involved and send their thoughts, opinions, and critiques of the film to mediapotluck@gmail.com or on Twitter with #cobrafilm.

Working with Pony Ghost Productions the team is setting out to work with the online community to re-imagine a low budget “sweded” version of Cobra. Everyone involved will get to direct a sequence from the film and put their own twist on this classic. No money, a love for explosions, and a whole lot of match sticks.
