Sly: Notorius to HBO

According to The New York Daily NewsSly has decided to take Notorious, his biopic of the murder of rapper Biggie Smalls to HBO.

Stallone is set to play [and possibly direct] LA Police homicide Detective Russell Poole, who probed the rapper’s still-unsolved murder and was the first to suggest that crooked cops might be behind it.

The Notorious BIG‘s death is currently a hot issue in LA due to the rapper’s wrongful death trial.

After the report of Sly‘s agreement to take Notorious to HBO appeared on the SZ, several websites, picked up the story and credited the StalloneZone and AB King [StalloneZone regular] for the news! You can see what I mean HEREHERE,and even HERE.

The Contender Has a Fighting Chance

MSNBC.com‘s Ask the Reality Show Experts posted an insteresting answer to the following question:

Will ESPN pick up the boxing reality show?

Here’s a bit of their answer: Contender fans aren’t going down without a fight…

NBC’s “The Contender”
may not have been a
smash hit, but it had a
solid base of about 6
million
viewers per week, and it has rabid support among fans…

Executive producers Sugar Ray Leonard, Sylvester Stallone, and Mark Burnett are reportedly talking to ESPN about taking the series to the cable network for a second season…

NBC has said they haven’t officially turned down the show yet. Last week Burnett told the New York Times that a renewal announcement was “highly likely” last week. There hasn’t been word yet, but all of these seem to add up to a return for “The Contender.”

“Rocky” Still the Standard!

Now that “Cinderella Man” is out and doing well, writers are creating their lists of the best boxing  movies ever. I’m happy to say that “Rocky” is always listed and usually at the top.

Joe Holleman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch ranks “Rocky” at #2 and says, “Sylvester Stallone  reinvented the underdog film with this Best Picture Oscar winner.”

Louis B. Hobson of the Winnipeg Sun writes: Stallone deserves kudos for writing and starring in a simple, time-honoured story told with style, heart and passion. Stallone made Rocky Balboa a symbol of the extraordinary things ordinary people can achieve if they have a dream and the passion to pursue it.

Nearly 30 years later, “Rocky” is still the standard! – Craig
