“The Expendables” Makes the Grade

On December 9, 2009, Canada.com posted a list of Ten Films for 2010.  It included the ten films that critic Jay Stone is most looking forward to seeing next year and included: “The Book of Eli”, “Shutter Island”, “Iron Man 2”, “Toy Story 3”, “The Expendables” and more.  Here’s what he had to say about “The Expendables”:

The Expendables: A bunch of mercenaries take on a job in South America, and if Stallone and company aren’t enough, it also features Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger (hey, who’s managing the California budget overrun?) This could be a classic of its type, and if they weren’t all in such good shape, we’d be tempted to call it The Expandables. But we can’t. (Aug. 20)

John Beatty: “Expendable”

John Beatty, who’s no stranger to long-time SZoners, created this amazing drawing of Sly from “The Expendables” on Friday while I was hanging out in his studio.  John’s been my best friend since junior high and gifted me with this piece since I’ve been serving as his co-host for some of his live UStream sketch sessions.

Although I have quite a few pieces in my collection, and it’s impossible to pick a single favorite, this piece by John is going to be tough for anyone to top.  Thanks again to John for going above and beyond the call.

Rambo Plot Change News Everywhere

Since we broke the story of Sly’s e-mail to the StalloneZone about changing the direction of the next “Rambo” movie and the potential for Hunter to be made, several sites picked up the story and ran with it:

Bill Marimon is “Expendable”

Bill “The Raytrix” Marimon is back with his take on Sly from “The Expendables”.  I got this piece from Bill at the Mini-MegaCon.  He wasn’t set up as a guest, but I was able to persuade him to do a couple of Stallone sketches.  This is the second.  I posted the first here.  In the mean time check out Bill’s home on the web.  There’s plenty there to hold you over.

EW’s “Expendables” Exclusive

Yesterday Entertainment Weekly posted an “exclusive” mini-interview with Sly about his recent filming for ‘The Expendables” with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzengger. Here’s a taste of what Sly had to say:

“I was just looking at the dailies, saying, ‘Jesus, this is amazing!'”…

“Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in. We have a history together. And we go back and forth and I tell him that I should have shot him a long time ago when I had the chance. Then it goes on from there. And here we are, the three of us trying to man up to one another, playing off of who we are, using our baggage in this one scene.”

Sly, Arnold & Bruce Make History

On Saturday, October 25, 2009, at about 12:00 PM EST, @marialascala sent the following message on Twitter:

“Cameras r rolling with sly Bruce and Arnold all together for the first time”

Later in the day, @marialascala sent out:

“wow im stil reelng from the day. Six hours of Arnold bruce & sly creating movie magic. details soon on my blog but sadly no fotos…yet”

How cool is that?  Sly, Arnold and Bruce together on screen for the first time and it’s for their scenes in “The Expendables”. It’s a great time to be a Stallone fan!
