Sly is a Dipper

On February 20, 2010, TimesOnLine posted an article about stars who become the top box office draw and then fall from grace… and then make a comeback.  The piece is called Top Ten Box Office Dippers and covers stars from Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. to Meg RyanSly comes in at #6 on the list and this is what they have to say:

Sylvester Stallone The Rocky movies made over a billion worldwide. But his remake of Get Carter didn’t do too well, and by 2001 his face wasn’t even on the US poster for Driven. Return to form? August’s The Expendables, an action hero flick to end them all.

Julie Benz Returning for Next Rambo?

On February 12, 2010, Julie Benz, who co-starred with Sly in Rambo was interviewed by AOL TV.  The rumor that Julie was going to return in the next Rambo movie was brought up.  Here’s what was said:

I’ve heard a rumor that you’re in ‘Rambo V.’ What’s up with that? I think that people will be shocked to know there’s actually a ‘Rambo V’ coming up. And it looks like Mickey Rourke might be involved. That would be awesome.
I’ve read that they’re definitely doing a ‘Rambo V,’ but my involvement is a rumor. I mean, no one’s approached me, but I would love to work with Stallone again. I had an amazing experience on ‘Rambo IV.’ If they can figure out a way for my character to fit into the storyline that makes sense, I’m there.

You know, it would be pretty cool to see Julie’s character brought back for the next Rambo.  There was definitely some chemistry between the two.  I can see her character and Rambo interacting the way that Delores Taylor’s character related to Billy Jack– Craig

Antz Beats Out Classics

On February 13, 2010, TimesOnLine posted their choices for the Top 50 Kids Movies For AdultsAntz made the list coming in at #26 [ahead of The Iron Giant, Finding Nemo, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Bambi, Snow White, Monsters Inc, The Wizard of Oz, The Lion King and many others]!  Here’s what they had to say about Antz:

Antz (1998) With Woody Allen playing a neurotic ant in therapy, and Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone both taking self-deprecating potshots at their big screen selves, plus an intricate post-Marxist interrogation of the wishes of the individual (Allen) versus the need of the common good (the Ant Colony), this is a movie that positively screams, “Children optional!”

More Reactions to Expendables Test Screening

On February 10, 2010, Moviehole rounded up some more reactions from The Expendables test screening.  Here are some of the comments:

“They get away with a lot – especially considering it’s aiming for a PG-13. Some pretty rough stuff in there… Loved [name removed] death scene. The Schwarzenegger/Bruce Willis cameo at the start of the film is fun too… Yeah, it’s fun – it’s a lot of fun…”

‘This is a just a fun, action romp that wows and dazzles with it’s ultraviolent action set pieces and cast of familiar favorites…”

“The site FanBoyWeb also enjoyed the bejesus out of the film…”

Rocky Cast: Where Are They Now

On February 10, 2010, WXII12.com posted a respective on Rocky along with a slide show showing what has happened to the cast in the thirty-three years since it was released.  Here’s a bit of what was said:

Not only did the movie capture three Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for John G. Avildsen, but it was nominated for seven more, including Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay for Stallone. The nominations made him only the third person ever to earn acting and writing nominations in the same year, following Charles Chaplin for “The Great Dictator” and Orson Welles for “Citizen Kane.”

The 33-year-old classic, which AFI named in 2008 the No. 2 sports film of all time behind only “Raging Bull,” includes a cast featuring Talia Shire, Burt Young, and the late Burgess Meredith, all of whom earned Oscar nominations, and Carl Weathers.
