Sly Steers Clear and Finds Motivation!
| STALLONE STEERS CLEAR OF ROMANTIC COMEDIES from Contactmusic.com News for October 25, 2004 Hollywood actor SYLVESTER STALLONE has sworn off ever starring in a romantic comedy – because he believes his fans will only ever accept him as an action hero. Stallone, who scored a huge fanbase in such action franchises as ROCKY and RAMBO, admits he’s never been too successful whenever he’s strayed outside of his usual genre. He tells MAXIM magazine, “It’s hard to make such a drastic change when you’re identified with a certain character or genre. “Some guys have amazing versatility and can move around more guys like TOM HANKS, RUSSELL CROWE, PAUL NEWMAN. “But other fells… their baggage arrives 10 minutes before they do. People go, ‘Oh! It’s Rocky!’ “Let me put it this way: You won’t see Sylvester Stallone starring in NOTTING HILL 2.” 25/10/2004 02:52 STALLONE CREDITS HERCULES FOR MUSCLE MOTIVATION from Contactmusic.com News for October 25, 2004 RAMBO star SYLVESTER STALLONE credits the 1958 movie HERCULES for giving him the inspiration to develop big muscles. The Hollywood actor, who has boasted a muscular frame for a number of years, hated his skinny body when he was growing up. He tells MAXIM magazine, “When I was young, I was very thin and not athletic. I felt isolated because I was never picked for teams and I wasn’t really brought up in a sports-minded family. “But when I was 12 I went to see HERCULES with STEVE REEVES and I had an epiphany. I literally went from the theatre to a junkyard to find heavy stuff to lift. “At that time gyms were dungeons’ dark, weird places with things that looked like they were used during the Inquisition. And people were into weird experimentation like the Cheese Diet and eating raw eggs.” 25/10/2004 09:21 – Craig |

New SLY Magazine Coming!
Next Celebrity Mag Contender Could Prove A Real Knockout
Mediapost.com reported on October 1st that Sylvester Stallone and American Media are developing a new men’s fitness magazine which would feature Sly on the cover each month.
Here’s what the piece says:
He beat the odds to become a fictional heavyweight champion of the world, and won an Oscar in the process. Now sources tell Mag Rack that actor Sylvester Stallone is the next big celebrity magazine contender. Following in the footsteps of Rosie, Oprah, and Trump, American Media is developing Sly, a new health and fitness monthly aimed at older men, which would feature Stallone on the cover of each issue.
It’s a logical line extension for American Media, which already publishes Men’s Fitness, and already has an editorial talent pool in place to develop the personality-oriented workout book.
Assuming Stallone’s magazine actually makes it to the racks, he would immediately elevate his status as one of the more versatile figures in the media universe. The actor, best known for his roles as “Rocky” and “Rambo,” is also on the bill to host the new NBC boxing reality series “The Contender.”

2 of 3 Wepner Claims Dismissed in Suit Against Sly

On September 28th, U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden denied Sylvester Stallone‘s bid to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Chuck Wepner which claims that Stallone inappropriately used Wepner‘s name to promote his “Rocky” movies.
However, Judge Katharine S. Hayden dismissed two other claims by the ex-boxer: 1) that Stallone was unjustly enriched by trading on Wepner‘s life story and 2) that Wepner suffered by relying on Stallone‘s promises.
Wepner‘s lawyer Anthony G. Mango called the ruling a “100% victory.” [Uh, but weren’t TWO of the THREE claims dismissed? 100% Victory? More like 33%, I’d say. – Craig] Sly‘s attorney, Jon Paul Robbins, declined to comment preferring to not try the case in the media.
As to the one claim that was allowed to go forward Judge Hayden stated that “Wepner contends, and Stallone does not contest, that the main character, Rocky Balboa, was based on Wepner and the plot of the first movie was inspired on the 1975 fight.”
We’ll keep you posted of updates as the case progresses.
It’s not unusual for a judge to allow a case to proceed to trial so that a jury can decide the outcome of the claims. The fact that two of Wepner‘s claims were dismissed is good news for Sly. The claim that did go forward doesn’t seem to have a solid foundation since Wepner has no contracts and he benefitted from his association to Rocky. I’m sure it can be easily proved that his appearances and income went up AFTER Sly spoke of his inspiration for Rocky. I’d also bet that Wepner used Sly‘s name in his appearances! – Craig

Gallo Praises Sly
Ernest “Jazzman” Resendes sent in the following report:
The September 3, 2004 issue of the Boston Phoenix has a nice piece on artist, actor, musician, director Vincent Gallo whose new movie The Brown Bunny has been generating enthusiastic buzz among art house film fans: which was directed, written, photographed, edited and produced by Vincent.
Anyway, the article includes some questions and answers with Vincent and one powerful quote in particular really got me excited. It’s always great to read fellow actor/artists going on record with admiration of some of Stallone’s many underrated performances.
Here’s what Mr. Gallo had to say:
“Sylvester Stallone in the Lords of Flatbush, if I could do half of that performance in my life, my life would have been worthwhile.”
That’s a great quote! – Craig

Mo writes: Long time visitor blah blah blah…thought you might like to know that DVD Review (Issue 67- July 2004) mentions a bit about Sly readying Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 for 2005. Apparently he wants John McTiernan and F Gary Gary to direct them.
[We can only hope! – Craig]
Rob Hoskins from Lexington, Kentucky e-mails: I attended last nights Tyson vs. Williams fight in Louisville. Mr. T was also in attendance and I spoke with him briefly about “Rocky VI”. He confirmed that as far as he knew the film would be made and that he quite possibly may have a role in it. He said that he most likely will not be fighting in the film, but that he had been contacted about an appearance. I was honored to have spoken face to face with my favorite Rocky opponent, Clubber Lang!
[That is not only great news, but so cool that you got to meet Mr. T. – Craig]
Thanks to both SZoners for passing along the news! – Craig Zablo
